Job Description:

Amherst College invites applications for the Communications Coordinator position. The Communications Coordinator is a part-time (10-15 hours per week), academic year (10 months per year), casual position without benefits. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the w ays in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.

The Amherst College Center for Community Engagement (CCE) seeks a communications coordinator who will use a variety of tools to share information about activities, events, and programs on campus and in the local community. Collaborating with a wide range of partners, the

CCE identifies and supports community-based learning opportunities inside and outside of the classroom. Our work is linked to the college's anti-racism efforts and driven by a deep commitment to equity and justice.

The communications coordinator is a part-time, academic year position. Reporting to the associate director, the communications coordinator will work with college faculty, students, and staff, as well as community partners, to share information about community engagement activities and the work of the department. The individual in this position will create and distribute the CCE's newsletter, create print materials, and manage the department's social media accounts.

Summary of Responsibilities

Communication

  • Collect information about community engagement opportunities on and off campus
  • Create and manage the department's email newsletter and print media
  • Create content for and manage the CCE's social media accounts - e.g. respond to comments when appropriate, repost content from partner organizations both on and off campus


Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Commitment to and demonstrated knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion as related to instruction in higher education, community partnerships, and day-to-day activities
  • Experience with digital content creation - e.g. email newsletters and social media posts
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience working closely with a diverse set of undergraduates, faculty, staff, and community members


Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, art, or related field
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in communications and/or social media management
  • Knowledge of the Connecticut River Valley
  • Fluency in a second language
