Assistant Professor of Financial Planning

The American College of Financial Services (TAC) is seeking an applicant to fill the Assistant Professor of Financial Planning position for online teaching and course content development in the Financial Planning program both undergraduate and graduate. The Assistant Professor has applicable content expertise at the appropriate level and will provide evidence of recent and/or current academic and financial planning practitioner experience which applies to students' achieving the goals and learning outcomes of the program. The academic and financial planning practitioner experiences are in the area of developing online content related to sophisticated planning techniques in financial services with a general mastery of investments, tax planning, education funding, behavioral finance, risk management, retirement planning, estate planning, and professional ethics, and insurance. These positions may be performed from remote locations. Additionally, the Assistant Professor serves as the primary academic expert on the programmatic content and maintains a network of programmatic connections through personal network, professional associations, research, thought leadership, public speaking, and board service.
 

This position has overall responsibility for teaching live-online, developing relevant industry course content in the Financial Planning Program, and the multiple designations at TAC.
 

The position will require continuous development of academic programs, teaching, and delivering of the highest quality professional and advanced education programs and services to TAC’s students. The Assistant Professor should serve as the subject matter expert in Instructional Design teams in developing advanced and sophisticated online delivery of course content. TAC is a leader in financial planning education and the applicant will have a strong interest in maintaining the quality and relevance of our remotely delivered courses. Financial Planning related courses are offered in a synchronous and/or asynchronous format. Financial Planning courses are offered in a 14-week, 10-week, or accelerated 5-week length, with live sessions being held weekly.
 

This position will require some travel to industry and college events, in-person review instruction, and course instruction through webinars. TAC faculty are encouraged to engage with the profession through applied research and presentations that support the educational mission of the institution.


Expected Contributions

 

1. ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF FINANCIAL PLANNING (90%)

Key/Representative Activities:

    • Teach Financial Planning courses in a variety of modality (synchronous, asynchronous, live-online, hybrid, in-person, etc.)

    • Support other programs where subject matter expertise is needed, such as in the financial planning and behavioral finance learning objectives within the ChFC®, MSFP, and WMCP® programs.

    • Develop instructional material and update previously prepared material to reflect and incorporate best practices financial professionals apply to marketing, communication skills, financial planning, financial products, practice management, and technology 

    • Maintain the quality of the curriculum on an ongoing basis through the development and updating of course content to reflect and incorporate best practices financial professionals apply to communication skills, financial planning, financial products, practice management and technology, and compliance with the latest industry and TAC policies or standards.

    • Engage in thought leadership activities such as peer-reviewed and/or industry publications; engage in professional development opportunities; participate in external learning opportunities such as conferences, workshops, and webinars.

    • Recruit and manage subject matter experts (SMEs) to assist with course revisions

    • Build a strong and engaged adjunct pool. Assist in the professional development of adjuncts.

 

2. SUPPORT SERVICES FOR STUDENTS/COLLEGE GOVERNANCE (10%)

Key/Representative Activities:

  • Participate in College development and governance activities, program development, Committee service, etc.

  • Support student success through activities that enable substantive and regular interaction in classes. Support student persistence and progression and the creation of an online community.  

Essential Qualifications & Competencies:

  • Required designation: CFP® 

  • Master level degree in financial planning or equivalent required. PhD preferable.

  • Optional designations: AFC, CPA, EA

  • In-depth knowledge of the professional and adult education industries including a) distance learner and adult education industry; and b) the needs and interests of all students served by TAC.

  • Advanced analytical, planning, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to think critically; address complex problems; and use modern technologies and information resources so that students are prepared to become leading citizens of an increasingly global society.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with peers, corporate clients, and prospects.

  • Must be able to work effectively as a member of TAC’s faculty team, and represent TAC to the industry, the public, and accreditation agency representatives.

  • Ability to maintain and grow a network of professionals and utilize that network to enhance programmatic offerings.
