Summers Off Position:

This is a full-time non-exempt position that works 40 hours per week for 40 weeks per year (August-May) and has 12 weeks off in the summer.

This position receives pay and benefits year-round. The pay rate is $18.20 per hour and is paid as a salary of $1,120 per biweekly pay period.

This position accrues sick and personal leave but is ineligible for vacation leave.

Position Overview:

Works within Disability Support Services. Provides support to students with disabilities and the UCO Community in ensuring equal access to courses. Oversees the DSS Testing Center which proctors exams for instructors and their students with identified disability accommodations. Identifies and escalates complex issues to a higher level position. Works with students, instructors, and third-party vendors regarding needs related to an alternative format. Works with Information Technology in installing computer hardware, repairing software, and running diagnostic programs on ADA workstations and department personnel. Involved in the installation and rollout of new assistive technology software packages, upgrades, and new desktop hardware. Sets up and connects to peripheral equipment, including printers and scanners, and troubleshoots and resolves malfunctions. Maintains assistive technology inventory of parts or components, tracks requests, and maintains the assistive technology database. Researches assistive technology software and hardware to evaluate the ease of use and whether a product will aid the user in access. Writes or revises user-training manuals and procedures. Develops training materials, such as exercises and visual displays. Performs work under general supervision. Handles moderately complex issues and problems, and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff. Possesses moderate working knowledge of the subject matter. Typically non-exempt and supervises students. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:
  • Oversees the Disability Support Services Testing Center.
  • Coordinates alternative print requests and production. (Includes contacting publishers, scanning, and conversion of print-based material into accessible formats).
  • Oversees database management concerning alternative print, and assistive/adaptive technology and provides statistics as requested.
  • Creates and/or conducts training sessions regarding the use of assistive/adaptive technology and encourages accessible material for faculty/staff/students.
  • Researches, evaluates, creates, and recommends innovative assistive/adaptive technology resources and tools per federal and state law for ADA stations and serves as a resource for the university community.
  • Provides problem-solving strategies for DSS computers as well as maintains assistive/adaptive technology located at ADA workstations, including reporting and coordinating repairs and upgrades to IT.
  • Hires, trains and supervises lab technical student workers to assist in completing essential job functions as needed.
  • Ability to have a flexible work environment as determined by a supervisor after any required probationary period
Job Level:

Scope & Impact: This position is an entry-level professional position, with actions that may have a measurable impact on operations within a work group.

Communication & Interaction : Routinely answers questions and provides information and data requested by individuals within or outside of the work area. Questions that require interpretation or are not easily resolved are referred to Supervisor.

Effective Knowledge: Demonstrates ability to execute tasks according to standard operating procedures and/or direction. Demonstrates ability to learn the new subject matter, coupled with attention to detail and responsiveness to feedback.

Problem Solving & Judgement : Performs a variety of duties following established policies and procedures. Resolves problems by selecting from approved alternatives based on past practices, established procedures, or direction. Relies on direct supervision is available to set priorities and objectives, and to assist in problem resolution.

Budget Authority: May provide input into budget development by assisting with the identification of operational needs and requirements.

Policy & Procedure Authority: Primarily responsible for executing routine procedures with direction from senior staff.

Reporting Relationships : Generally reports to a manager or higher but may receive basic operational direction and guidance from senior level staff members.

Supervisory & Team Leadership Responsibilities : Supervises student workers.

Qualifications

Qualifications Required:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a job-related field or 4+ years of equivalent work experience in a chosen field that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts. Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results.

Qualifications Preferred:

Preferred Master's degree in a job-related field or 7+ years of equivalent work experience.
