Haverford College invites applications to our available full-time, exempt, benefits-eligible Web Communications Specialist position.

As a member of the College's three-person Web Team in College Communications, the Web Communications Specialist will enhance and support the College websites through the application of solid design and UX fundamentals. This position will work closely with the Web Team to audit, assess, and improve website content to ensure that accurate, relevant, and engaging information is being delivered to the website's key audiences. Pursuant to the college's policy and with approval from the supervisor, a hybrid work schedule may be applicable.

The Web Communications Specialist is the caretaker of the visual identity for College websites and works closely with the Web Team to establish College standards for content, architecture, and design, and to ensure that websites adhere to these standards. This position requires a strong understanding of web best practices including research and strategic planning, content development, information architecture, and visual design. In addition to demonstrating proficiency with HTML/CSS, this position requires a commitment to learning and supporting new technologies, as well as the creation of support and training documentation. The Web Communications Specialist must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, project management skills, a high sense of self-motivation, and organization.

Essential Functions & Primary Responsibilities:

Ensure websites adhere to content, user experience, design standards and visual identity, and the College's style guidelines throughout the website. Review and update content submitted by users distributed across campus, ensuring websites adhere to content and user experience standards Work with campus clients on streamlining and improving content. Audit and assess website content to ensure that accurate, relevant, and engaging information is being delivered to the website's key audiences. Consult with community stakeholders to determine a website's purpose, functionality, requirements, and long-term strategy. Utilize HTML/CSS knowledge to create dynamic, and visually engaging responsive websites for the College, and academic and administrative departments within a Drupal environment. Works with the web communications team to develop and support specialized pages and sites as needed. Participate in ongoing site maintenance/content management as part of a 3-person web team. Create a variety of support and training documents, and provide in-person training as needed. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Web Communications.

Line of Report: The Web Communications Specialist reports to the Director of Web Communications, and has no direct reports.

Education, Training, & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree, certification, or combination of experience and education equivalent to a bachelor's degree
  • Demonstrated experience with Drupal. Experience with Wordpress preferred. (Note: By the end of 2023, the haverford.edu website will be migrated from Drupal 7 to Drupal 9.)
  • A sophisticated working knowledge of HTML and CSS, and an understanding of web standards and best practices and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2).
  • Experience in higher education is preferred.
  • Understanding of accessibility and usability concepts, information architecture, UX, and UI
  • Familiarity with and use of Google Analytics
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate solutions to team members as well as College administrators, faculty, alumni, staff, and students
  • Ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple projects
  • Experience with Google Workspace (Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Drive, etc.) and Basecamp (or similar) preferred
