Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Director of Student Services, Community Engagement and Equity (Director) assumes leadership for coordination and delivery of academic counseling to students and developing and implementing student-focused diversity initiatives. The Director is the point of contact who will lead efforts within the administration to continue implementing programs and initiatives set forth in the Anti-Racism Steering Committee agenda. In the absence of the Dean of Students, the Director will lead the Student Services team. Evenings, weekend and early morning hours are sometimes required.

Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate and manage academic advising schedules and programs for the entire JD population, including programming tailored for 1Ls. There are two full-time advisers and one variable-hours officer adviser. The Director will supervise these advisers to ensure students receive relevant information and academic support and counseling related to graduation requirements, curriculum and scheduling choices. Support students facing personal and academic issues and connect students to the appropriate resources on campus. Work with identity groups and students to address areas of opportunity and concern; develop and implement DEI programs and initiatives for students. Research and develop programs to enhance inclusiveness and diversity. Serve on the Anti-Racism Coordinating Committee (ARCC), serve as the point of contact between faculty and students and lead efforts within the administration to continue the process of implementing programs and initiatives set forth in the ARCC agenda. Manage the Academic Coaching program, which includes selecting and training coaches, setting guidelines for the program and approving time sheets. Supports the overall mission of the Office of Student Services; participate as needed in planning and working on various Student Services Office projects.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree required; law degree strongly preferred. A minimum of five to seven years of relevant experience is required, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to work with diverse constituencies and support an inclusive work environment.

Competencies:

  • Must possess excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to demonstrate sensitivity to cultural differences and the ability to relate effectively with a diverse student population. Demonstrated experience creating and implementing programming to support identity groups and first-generation law students highly desirable. Computer literacy required and familiarity with Google Workspace preferred. Must be self-motivated and able to initiate and set goals and prioritize tasks. Demonstrated interest in student development and ability to work collaboratively with varied constituencies. Effective collaboration and communication with students, faculty, administrators and external constituents. Must have excellent judgment and be able to maintain confidentiality. Must be detail-oriented and able to retain organized records.
