The Program Coordinator for International Student Success position reports directly to the Director of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. The Office of Diversity and Inclusion is part of the division of Student Life at Maryville University. Currently, the Diversity and Inclusion staff consists of a director, three program coordinators and a graduate assistant. This position will coordinate the immigration, personal, cultural advising, programming, processing, and individual needs of Maryville’s dynamic and growing international student population. The position resides within the Division of Student Life. The successful candidate must be committed to fostering a culturally diverse atmosphere for faculty, staff and students.

Key Responsibilities:
• Maintain university compliance with the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) by serving as a Designated School Official (DSO), aligning SEVIS data processing with regulations under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Position will establish, update and track SEVIS files on a quarterly basis.
• Advises international students and their dependents and helps them maintain lawful immigration status through continuous education on immigration regulations, policies and procedures.
• Provides accurate immigration information to international students, monitors and tracks student immigration status, and maintains appropriate files.
• Advises students with immigration petitions and applications to include processing for new F-1 visas, work permits, reinstatement, and reduced course load authorizations, change of status, medical leave and economic hardship employment authorization.
• Coordinates and plans programs that support the unique needs of F-1 international students including the development and implementation of retention strategies and new student orientation program. Provides active case management to an assigned caseload of students. Supports international students experiencing cross-cultural, family, personal or economic crisis, which may impact academic performance. Helps students to access appropriate community services/resources.
• Coordinate, evaluate, revise, and conduct International Student Orientation and various workshops to create continuous learning opportunities for international students in accordance with federal regulations for non-immigrant visa holders, national and local laws, college policies, and sponsorship requirements.
• Establish and maintain professional networks and relationships with local, state, national, and international organizations and governmental agencies to expand international student enrollment.
• Assists international students with processing applications for work permits, reinstatements, extensions of stay and other immigration related matters.
• Serve as the primary SACM contact and manage communication and student issues, advocate for students campus-wide, and troubleshoot and address problems and student concerns
• Serve as the liaison with academic departments to provide guidance and oversight of the English proficiency of conditionally admitted students
• Focus all efforts on the Maryville Strategic Plan, with particular focus on the theme: Diversity and Inclusiveness
• Build and cultivate relationships with community partners, particularly with Enrollment, Student Success, and Academic Affairs, to support international students
• Commitment to supporting the enrollment efforts with regard to recruitment, retention, and travel as it relates to strategic growth
• Develop and implement programs to serve international students such as: Life Skills, Health/Wellness, Retention, Finance, Civic Engagement, Time Management, Having Presence, Networking, Conflict Management and others as needed.
• Attend activities and events in the St. Louis area.



Minimum Qualifications



• Citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States.
• Prior experience serving as a Designated School Official (DSO)
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited University.
• Knowledge of international students and their needs.
• Knowledge of database management and various software programs.
• Knowledge of placement and proficiency testing.
• Knowledge of admission and degree requirements for the University’s academic programs.
• Strong interpersonal/human relations and customer service skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills including public speaking.
• Academic or professional international travel experience.
• Exemplary skills in program development and implementation
• Demonstrated commitment to ethnic and cultural diversity
• Cultural competency and capacity to connect and communicate compassion across a breadth of identities
• Excellent oral written communication skills



Preferred Qualifications



• Master’s degree from an accredited University
• Experience with Salesforce or other CRM system
