Department Summary
The Oregon Research Schools Network (ORSN) is a field-initiated research program within the Center on Human Development, a research and outreach center in the College of Education. The mission of ORSN is to improve the academic and career outcomes for youth through collaborative partnerships between University of Oregon faculty members and school districts and Educational Service Districts across the state of Oregon. ORSN provides professional development, instruction, training, and support for educators and educational assistants to improve their work in schools.
Position Summary
The purpose of the Graphic Designer is to aid and support the ORSN Director and the broader ORSN team in providing a full range of graphic artwork for print and digital communications, including animation-based video editing, technical assistance, and staff consultation for the program.

This position will be responsible for the overall appearance of project material and will work closely with the Program Director and staff to develop the overall design of all materials produced for the program to ensure that all video modules, digital, and printed materials are completed and meet the standards for the project and follow any University or grant/contract specific guidelines and policies.

This position includes the development and upkeep of digital professional development and training materials within the user-friendly ORSN online platform.

This position will regularly interact with ORSN-affiliated faculty, the Business Manager, and additional staff within the Center on Human Development and the larger College of Education. The Graphic Designer will also have virtual and in-person interactions with clients as needed.

Independent decision-making for this position will be limited to some day-to-day operations and assistance with some strategic planning which will impact future ORSN outcomes. This position will directly supervise student graphic design employees, and work with other ORSN team members in collaborating on furthering ORSN goals and objectives.
Minimum Requirements
  • Four years of graphic design experience; OR
    Associates degree + 3 years of graphic design experience; OR
  • Bachelor's degree + 2 years of graphic design experience

    Degree may be in graphic design, graphic art, fine art, or a closely related field

  • Ability to organize and complete tasks in a timely manner and meet deadlines
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and effectively
  • Solid knowledge of design and visual principles, good visual design sense
  • Proven understanding of graphic design fundamentals
    Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with animation-based video editing
  • Proficiency with industry-standard graphic design software e.g. Adobe Creative Suite; interactive digital media; photography; illustration; technical illustration; video art direction or production
  • 3D modeling and animation knowledge e.g. Blender
  • Experience with audio editing, such as voiceover, sounds, and/or music
