    Department Summary
    The Lundquist College of Business (LCB) is one of seven schools housing academic programs on the University of Oregon campus. The college works cooperatively with other UO Colleges and Schools to prepare students for a broad range of career paths. There are approximately 1,200 undergraduate majors, 2,250 pre-business majors, 1200 undergraduate minors, 170 master's students, and 36 doctoral students.

    Located 110 miles south of Portland, the University of Oregon has an enrollment of 23,000. The Eugene metro area (pop. 351,715) is a region noted for its dynamic quality of life and progressive cultural environment. We are about an hour's drive from the Pacific coast and the Cascade Mountains. The University is an AAU research institution and a member of the Pac-12 conference.

    The Lundquist College of Business, University of Oregon is seeking an innovative instructor at the Instructor or Senior Instructor I level to teach in a growing sports business curriculum. The start date for this academic year is December 16, 2022 (winter term start). This is a 9-month instructional contract. Summer teaching opportunities may be available.

    Position Summary
    Responsibilities for this position(s) include:
    1. This position will teach up to eight (8) courses at either the graduate or undergraduate level. Courses may be related to Sports Business (Sports Marketing, Branding, Sports Product Management, Sponsorship, Sports, Sports & Society, Finance, or Analytics/Operations) and/or subjects such as Marketing, Management, Brand Management, and Product Development. The teaching load may be adjusted based on additional scholarship and/or instructional duties assigned by the department head and approved by the Senior Associate Dean for Faculty and Research.
    2. Service expectations: .20 FTE - activities could include departmental, college, or university committees; responsibilities in recognized professional organizations; service or major service as a club adviser.
    3. Although career faculty have no obligation for research or scholarship, a commitment to field-based research in the interface of sports-business-related fields is highly desirable.
    4. Professional development related to teaching and service: professional development conference attendance and staying current in the field is critical. May include service as a thesis for an undergraduate honors program (university).
    5. Undergraduate and graduate advising: minor undergraduate advising;
    6. Student contact and communication: office hours and advising students on group projects.

    The expectation would be that the successful candidate would provide the guidance and education necessary for undergraduate and graduate students to prepare for a career in sports business, working from firsthand knowledge of how the industry operates.
    Minimum Requirements
  • Two years of prior teaching experience.

    To qualify for the rank of Instructor:
  • Master's degree in a business-related field.

    To qualify for the rank of Senior Instructor I:
  • Master's degree in a business-related field.
  • Six years of teaching courses related to business post receipt of degree.
    Professional Competencies
  • Strong analytical skills and excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • Candidates must demonstrate interest, experience, and/or ability to promote cultural competency and/or diversity.
    Preferred Qualifications
  • Significant (3+ years) documented, industry experience in the sports business industry at the time of appointment (work experience, publications, licensure, presentations, or equivalent in the last three years).
  • Ph.D. in a business-related field.
  • Experience teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels in business and/or sports business courses.
  • Experience teaching in large lecture settings.
