Position Summary: 

This is a full-time 9-month tenure-track position with an 80% teaching, 10% service, and 10% scholarship appointment. The position is in the Department of Agriculture & Tourism within the College of Business and Economic Development.  The anticipated start date is January 3, 2023.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop and teach a variety of undergraduate courses.

Engage in assessment and continuous improvement of courses.

Effectively advise and mentor students at the undergraduate level.

Engage students in high impact learning practices.

Develop a sustainable scholarship program, including seeking external funds to support the program.

Provide impactful departmental, college, university, and professional service to the university, community and state.

Develop an innovative teaching and research program in animal science.

Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary department of agriculture.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Head.

The primary duty will be to teach and assess undergraduate (and masters when appropriate) courses in animal science, reproduction, nutrition, feeds and feeding, animal breeding, and/or other courses based on interests and programmatic needs. Additional duties will include advising student organizations related to agriculture; serving on Departmental, College and/or University committees; and conducting and publishing peer-reviewed research related to agriculture or on the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

The successful candidate will have expertise to support the undergraduate Agricultural Business degree, specifically the animal science and pre-vet options.  The incumbent will be expected to advise and mentor undergraduate students, and to engage with appropriate student organizations. Excellent communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to work effectively with colleagues.

The faculty member will have an interest in or experience with faculty-student collaborative research, scholarship, and creative activity both at the undergraduate and graduate level. Faculty members are expected to accomplish a record of scholarly achievement, including (but not limited to) mentoring of undergraduate research projects, grant writing and establish a regional, and ultimately externally-funded research program in keeping with the objectives of the Department of Agriculture & Tourism at Arkansas Tech University.

Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. degree in animal science, DVM, or doctorate in a related discipline.  ABD candidates will be considered. 

Experience in and/or knowledge of animal science and livestock management

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Excellence in college-level teaching methods.

Ability to inspire and motivate students.

Commitment to excellence in teaching, research and service.

Commitment to the publication of research in the academic press.

Potential to obtain extramural funding to support research and outreach programs.

Experience teaching and mentoring student in face-to-face classroom setting.

Demonstrated ability to design college-level coursework.

Evidence of or potential for fostering an inclusive environment for diverse populations.

Work Location, Environment, and Physical Demands: 

This position is located in offices, classrooms and labs at ATU. The position is assigned a desk and computer in location that may be in a different building than classroom location, so the position requires the ability to change location and/or walk moderate distances during the day. Required activities include teaching; lecture and lab activities, including those at the outdoor learning lab; sitting for extended periods; use of a keyboard and mouse, and use of standard office and farm equipment.
