Job Summary
Work with complex student situations that have impacted the student's ability to be successful at the university. This position is highly collaborative and plays an active role in adjudication of student conduct cases on the Armstrong and Liberty campuses, and providing support for non-clinical student case management and advocacy by developing and implementing long and short-term response plans. This position is expected to support both the Dean of Students Office and the Office of Student Conduct equally.

Examples of student concerns include, but are not limited to, transition, physical and mental health, student safety, personal crisis, basic needs insecurity, and integration into campus life. This position reports to the Associate Dean of Student Care and Well-being. The Assistant Dean will spend the majority of their time on the Armstrong Campus (Savannah) but will be expected to spend some time on the Liberty campus (Hinesville). This position has been identified by Federal Law (Jeanne Clery Act) as a Campus Security Authority (CSA), with significant student and campus responsibilities. CSA's are obligated to report crimes reported to them which occurred on campus, in public areas bordering campus and in certain non-campus buildings owned or controlled (leased) by the University.

Responsibilities
  • Perform related duties as assigned to support the mission of the University
  • Community Standards/Conduct
    • Adjudicate student conduct cases, primarily based at the Armstrong and Liberty Campuses
    • Supervise the coordination of training, advising and consulting with academic departments, individual faculty members, and other Georgia Southern (Armstrong) community members in the administration of the code of student conduct
    • Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Community Standards to review and update of the University Code of Student Conduct annually
    • Consult with the Office of Legal Affairs to determine appropriate procedures for conduct cases
    • Facilitate educational outreach activities and development of office resources, including written materials, website information, training/workshops, educational seminars, and other resources as determined appropriate for the Armstrong campus
    • Assess the goals, objectives, and efforts of the Office of Student Conduct- Armstrong Campus
    • Assist the Associate Dean of Student Conduct &Community Standards in the development of policies and procedures
  • Student Support
    • Meet with students seeking assistance through the Dean of Students office to ascertain their concerns and needs
    • Coordinate student referrals and transitions to internal and external service providers (e.g. psychiatric/psychological treatment services, alcohol and drug treatment services, homeless shelter services, food bank services, etc.)
    • Maintain a system of follow up for students who have been referred to campus or community resources, encouraging compliance with recommendations and care plans
    • Assist with absence notifications to faculty for students needing to be away from campus for three or more classes due to illness, hospitalization, family emergency
    • Maintain effective partnerships with key departments including, but not limited to, Academic Affairs, GSU Police Department, Housing and Residential Education, Student Health Services, Title IX Office, University General Counsel
    • Communicate with family members as appropriate
    • Provide educational programming aimed to assist in the student's overall well-being and development at the university (e.g. campus student assessments, workshops, etc.)
    • Maintain accurate case management records in Maxient
    • Serve in administrative on-call rotation for after-hours crisis response
    • Participate in division-wide and campus-wide initiatives and programs
  • May supervise Graduate Assistants


Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
  • Master's Degree

Required Experience
  • Two (2) or more years of related work experience in student conduct, social services, case management, or related field
  • Experience working with or supporting clients in crisis

Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Commitment to the development of an academic-residential campus environment through student-centered, collaborative teamwork across academic and Student Affairs units
  • Familiarity with referral processes and typical campus resource
  • Working knowledge of college developmental and mental health issue
  • Skilled in assessment and continuous improvement of Student Affairs programs in higher education
  • Current knowledge and experience applying best practices and appropriate legal/procedural regulations related to addressing students of concern
  • Proven ability in assisting people in unbiased reflection on behavior, decision-making, and community membership
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex situations

Preferred Educational Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in higher education, social work, psychology or related field

Preferred Experience
  • Three (3) or more years of related experience
  • Prior work experience in a higher education setting
  • Experience providing consultation to college faculty, staff, and administration
  • Experience working with a student conduct database software, such as Maxient
  • Experience managing confidential and sensitive information

Proposed Salary
$55,000
