The HR Generalist must possess the following skills and experience: knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, exceptional interpersonal, communication and coaching skills, ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships, project management skills and proven ability to prioritize and drive programs and systems to implementation and ability to effectively de-escalate and mediate complex situations with managers, supervisors and employees.
The HR Generalist should also possess experience working in and knowledge of HR software systems common to large organizations. Prior experience with SAP and working within a large academic institution is preferred, but not required.
Effectively manage employee relations issues and advise managers and supervisors on performance management and improvement strategies, coaching, and disciplinary processes.
- Make clear and appropriate recommendations to resolve complex employment-related matters consistent with university policies and know when to escalate matters for assistance and resolution.
- Develop and implement internal systems for performance management including a Centers-wide performance evaluation program consistent with university policies and practices.
- Help create and sustain a positive work environment by promoting and demonstrating employee relations practices that balance organizational and individual needs.
- Use working knowledge of employment laws and regulations and university policies to ensure compliance related to recruiting and employment, performance management, compensation, Family and Medical Leave (FML), disability and timekeeping.
- Ensure appropriate HR-related documentation and data integrity within relevant university and internal recordkeeping systems.
- Directly supervise all Human Resources staff of the Centers.
Experience working within a large academic institution.
Exceptional interpersonal, coaching and communications skills, both oral and written.
- Client service and solutions-based orientation.
- Learning agility and tolerance for ambiguity and change.
- Strong organizational skills, analytical and problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Capacity to work independently and in a results-oriented work environment.
