Purpose of Job

The Mississippi Summer Transportation Institute ( MSTI ) 2022 Virtual Summer Camp will provide enrichment courses, labs, and activities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics ( STEM ) academic and educational areas, as well as Job and Life Skills peer mentoring.

Scope of Responsibilities

Implementing the best STEM practices into instructional processes that will achieve the goals and objectives of student learning in the STEM field. The STEM instructor will assist in achieving desired student learning outcomes through implementations of the hands-on instructional design of the Mississippi Summer Transportation Institute 2022 Virtual Summer Camp program.

The MSTI program will include hands-on activities ( through a virtual setting) that will foster the use of the team approach to solving problems, develop communications skills, and utilize the technology and STEM -based skills required into today’s workforce. Virtual exploration of transportation-related industries, government facilities, and transportation providers will expose students to real-world applications of STEM knowledge and introduce them to a wide range of careers in transportation.

Virtual instruction will routinely utilize a single day to introduce the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics approach geared to a specific transportation-related topic on the design, operation, or use of highways and roads, railways, airports and airway, public transit, waterways, and pipelines. Activities will primarily consist of virtual presentations to give the students a tactile sense of the transportation industry and the diversity of activities and opportunities that it provides in terms of supporting society and as a career. The camp will consist of operations that will be presented to the students along with team building exercises via Zoom.

Essential Job Functions

• Assist in the organizing, planning and implementation of all educational and enrichment activities of the program that will influence students learning outcomes.
• Prepare lectures for Biology class.
• Prepare activities that increase math skills using technology.
• Coordinate the arrangement of activities and students.
• Assist other instructors with hand on activities.
• Participate in all ongoing improvements in teaching strategies, technology application methods and enrichment events promoting students’ awareness, enthusiasm and academic success in the STEM field.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in one of the STEM disciplines.

Licensing and Certifications

Teacher Certification is required

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Curriculum design and implementation; research and development of lesson plans; assessment and application of teaching/learning processes and techniques that desired student learning outcomes; educational resourcefulness to support special learning needs
• Excellent communication skills – written and verbal
• Excellent planning and organizational skills
• Excellent skills in computers
• Knowledge or experience with Zoom
