Job Summary

The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for assisting the head trainer with the operations of the Sports Medicine office in the Department of Athletics. Specific responsibilities include serving as the primary Athletic Trainer for a number of varsity programs.  

Essential Functions
  • Evaluate, care, prevent and treat athletic injuries and related illnesses. 
  • Inform coaches on status of injuries. 
  • Determine the ability to compete in an event and communicate this to coach and athlete.
  • Arrange medical appointments for student-athletes as necessary. 
  • Maintain injury reports and progress notes for injured athletes.
  • Coordinate the collection of all insurance and required physical forms for all student-athletes.
  • Cover home athletic events and practice sessions for intercollegiate teams.  Travel, as assigned, with intercollegiate teams.
  • Assist in maintaining a compliant, organized and efficient training room.
  • Monitor the paperwork completion process.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the Head Trainer or Director of Athletics.
  • Part of the University COVID-19 case investigation and contact tracing teams. Primary responsibility is student-athletes but have been tasked to general population tracing and investigating when they’re needs additional help.
  • Included education on proper PPE for COVID-19 test administrators, proper intake information of COVID-19 tests, instruction of patients on how to administer self-swab PCR nasal test, proper sample collection and securing sample for transport to lab. Also included proper cleaning of test area and what to do should PPE become compromised during testing procedure.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • NATABOC certified and PA license or eligible. 
  • First Aid and CPR certified.
  • Experience working in intercollegiate athletics. 
  • Excellent communication skills for use with a variety of constituents including professional staff and students.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree
  • Covid-19 Contract Tracing Certificate – Johns Hopkins University online non-credit course
Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to bend, crouch, stoop.
