Law School Registrar & Director of Academic Services

About the Opportunity

The Law School Registrar & Director of Academic Services oversees administrative services that support the School of Law's academic programs, including the J.D., LL.M., Media Advocacy, and MLS programs, and provides strategic leadership and management with respect to all aspects of student registration, records, examinations, and scheduling for the School of Law. This position oversees and coordinates instructional space assignments, curriculum management, and administration of examinations to all students and provides strategic planning and direction for the maintenance and enhancement of academic services for the School of Law. This position works closely with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, and the law school faculty to implement academic planning and policy and works collaboratively with the University Registrar's Office.

Responsibilities:

Scheduling and Registration:
Plans, coordinates, and provides leadership in all aspects of the master curriculum offerings of the School of Law. Develops and disseminates the law school's academic calendar. Develops and maintains the academic schedule for first-year and upper-level terms in compliance with accreditation standards established by the American Bar Association and in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and law faculty. Creates and updates course offerings for all law school academic programs in accordance with University policies and procedures. Manages all aspects of multiple registration cycles each academic year. Oversees strategic allocation of law school space, including management of all law school classroom scheduling. Facilitates cross-listing and cross-registration to support interdisciplinary education. Coordinates with all law school faculty and staff to ensure that the day-to-day operations of the law school run smoothly and efficiently.

Exams, Grades and Evaluations:
Oversees all aspects of the examination process for the School of Law. Manages multiple exam periods each year. Creates examination schedules, directs and supervises exam preparation and distribution, coordinates special exam arrangements, and manages all proctoring. Coordinates accommodated exam administration with the University Disability Resource Center, and oversees all exam reschedules and extensions. Oversees examination retention and destruction, in accordance with established policies, regulations, and guidelines. Manages all aspects of the law school's grading system, which includes both narrative evaluations and grades, including monitoring faculty compliance with grading rules and coordination with the University Registrar to ensure transcript accuracy.

Enrollment Management: Manages compilation, recording, verification, and dissemination of all data related to student enrollment, curriculum, and grades to relevant constituencies within the law school (e.g. Dean, Associate Dean, Assistant Dean), as well as state and federal accreditation agencies, including the American Bar Association. Develops and oversees tracking systems for all School of Law students including JD students, LLM students, and MLS students and disseminates reports to relevant law school and University constituencies regarding the enrollment status of all students in school, on co-op, on leave, or enrolled in a dual degree program. Manages enrollment for all incoming first year students, transfers, visitors and auditors. Ensures accurate record keeping and coordinates with the Registrar's Office via Salesforce and ASC Reports all information regarding changes of rotation, leaves of absence, dual degree programs, and withdrawals. Maintains all records and data and coordinates with other law school and University departments to ensure accurate enrollment records.

Systems Management: Manages all law school exams utilizing appropriate secure software and/or on-line test taking systems. Manages the law school's online narrative evaluation and grading system and coordinates the submission of grades into the Banner system with all faculty. Schedules all classrooms and oversees all scheduling of law school rooms through the University's room scheduling system. Administers all aspects of law student evaluations of faculty through University and/or other appropriate systems. Creates and edits content for ASA's Canvas- or other website-based communication with students. Develops and disseminates surveys and forms. Manages student data and records using appropriate systems. In addition to hands-on use of all systems, the LSR also provides training for faculty and staff and information for students regarding relevant systems.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 4-6 years of directly related and progressively responsible experience, specifically with academic records and registration. Excellent communication (both verbal and written), organizational and interpersonal skills, as well as strong analytical, quantitative, and creative problem-solving skills. Computer and systems proficiency with particular expertise in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and its applications, and the ability to learn new technologies, software, and applications. Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities under strict deadlines. Demonstrated commitment to providing responsive, positive, and effective support to a diverse constituency, including students, faculty and staff. Self-motivation and ability to work independently while also working collaboratively as a member of a team. Sound judgement, discretion and ability to handle confidential matters are essential.
