The Freeman College of Management at Bucknell University invites applicants for an Assistant Professor of Management & Organizations beginning in Fall 2023. The position is to be filled by an outstanding candidate with a commitment to scholarship and promise of excellence in undergraduate teaching to a diverse student body. The successful candidate will join the College's Management and Organizations Department (MORS) and will be primarily responsible for teaching courses in global management. A secondary expertise in strategy, entrepreneurship, or responsible management is desired as well. All courses will be grounded in ethics, values, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Candidates must possess a doctorate in a field appropriate for teaching the courses noted above.
The approximately 700 undergraduate students in the AACSB-accredited Freeman College of Management may choose among seven highly interdisciplinary majors that combine courses in the various fields of management with offerings in the arts, humanities, natural and social sciences, and engineering. Our innovative curriculum and world-class teacher-scholars earned the Freeman College a top 20 ranking in the 2022 Poets & Quants' annual survey of undergraduate business programs. We believe that an undergraduate education that combines technical skills and deep intellectual exploration is the best preparation for thoughtful and capable leaders. New faculty members must be capable of contributing to this mission through teaching, advising, scholarship, and service.
This position involves teaching introductory and advanced courses in global management, as well as other undergraduate courses in the MORS Department according to the candidate's own interests and areas of competence. We especially seek candidates who also have expertise in strategic management, entrepreneurship, or responsible management. Additional courses in the Management and Organizations Department will be assigned as needs arise based on the candidate's secondary expertise. All courses should incorporate values-driven management thinking so that students will develop competence in thought directed toward organizational and societal challenges. The teaching load at Bucknell University is five credits per academic year. The candidate will also be responsible for advising students.
Both the Freeman College's strategic plan and the University's strategic plan provide impetus for our search for this position. The Freeman College's strategic plan states that the College's curriculum will embed the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Because addressing the SDGs requires new management and organizational approaches that incorporate values-driven management, we are seeking a teacher-scholar in the management area to teach courses that will be open to all Bucknell students In particular, we seek to hire someone who educates and studies topics directly linked to an array of United Nations social justice goals, and we hope to especially attract candidates who focus on one or more specific critical issues at the intersection of global management and social justice (e.g., #10 Reduced Inequalities, #1 No poverty, #2 Zero Hunger, and #3 Good Health & Well-Being). Our successful candidate will be interested in integrating students into their own scholarly agenda. QUALIFICATIONS
- Candidates must either possess a doctorate or show evidence
that they will obtain their degree no later than August 1, 2023 in
a field appropriate for teaching global management, and other
courses in the MORS Department of the Freeman College of Management
that relate to strategy, entrepreneurship, or responsible
management.
- Candidates must show promise for teaching
excellence.
- Candidates must demonstrate promise for scholarship
commensurate with an assistant professor appointment, and the
promise of ongoing productivity. The Freeman College supports both
traditional scholarship and creative scholarship that transcends
disciplinary boundaries.
