Qualifications.  We seek faculty with a strong record of college teaching, including demonstrated versatility in teaching various courses, such as public health biology, disease prevention and control, program planning, health communication, and experience with online teaching. The ideal candidate will be skilled at explaining biological principles required to understand the distribution of infectious and non-infectious diseases of public health importance. We seek enthusiastic, dedicated public health professionals with an earned doctorate in public health (DrPH or PhD) or a related doctorate with an MPH. Applicants with a terminal MPH degree and a strong record of relevant teaching experience will be considered. Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with credentials and experience. Rank is open at the level of instructor, assistant, associate, or full professor, dependent on qualifications. The Programs. The BSPH at Temple is among the first in the nation and is highly successful at training entry-level public health professionals and preparing students for graduate school. The program has approximately 350 majors and 100 minors. We also administer a 4+1 BS-MPH program, a Nutrition minor, an MPH program (both on-campus and online), and a PhD program specializing in Social & Behavioral Sciences.

The Department. Our 24 faculty members strive to promote healthy communities and train students to excel in public health practice and research. A highly collegial group, we are committed to understanding and addressing the needs of vulnerable and underserved populations by leading and engaging in public health education, research, and service, often in collaboration with community partners. Our robust BSPH program, live and online MPH programs, and PhD Program in Social & Behavioral Science prepares graduates for career paths as community health educators, counselors and practitioners, policy makers, and researchers. The Department has particular research strengths in health behavior change theory and interventions; health communication; tobacco and other substance use and addictions; child and maternal health; organ and tissue donation; obesity prevention and intervention; serious mental illness; and cancer prevention, control, and survivorship. The Department ranks first in the College for research expenditures and is committed to using research to inform instructional content and methods. Faculty members actively collaborate with research and clinical colleagues in the College of Public Health, the Lewis Katz School of Medicine, Temple University Hospital, the CPH Center for Obesity Research and Education, Fox Chase Cancer Center, and other government and non-profit public health organizations.

The College. Devoted to an interprofessional environment for education, research, and practice, the CEPH-accredited College of Public Health consists of academic units in the public health disciplines, health professions, and the School of Social Work, enrolling approximately 4,200 students. The College’s research aims to understand the fundamental factors that affect the health and well-being of individuals and populations by examining health problems through foundational research, policy and practice, and the development and dissemination of evidence-based interventions. We focus on social determinants of health and social justice with strengths in cancer, obesity, HIV, substance abuse, mental illness, mobility research, cognition and language, developmental disabilities, organ transplantation and aging. CPH research is funded by the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, National Science Foundation, Gates Foundation, and other major private foundations, state and federal agencies. The College is home to an Office for Community Engaged Research and Practice, the Center for Obesity Research and Education, and the Collaborative on Community Inclusion. The Office of Clinical Affairs and Interprofessional Education leads our clinical activities, including the COVID-19 RapidVax effort and forward-looking IPE within the College and throughout the university. The college is staffed by a robust complement of seasoned professionals including robust offices of Communications and Marketing, Information Technology, Sponsored Research, and Academic Affairs.

The University. Temple is an urban, research-intensive Carnegie R1 university located in historic and culturally rich Philadelphia, the nation’s 6^th largest city. The city was ranked 3^rd by the New York Times as a world tourist destination. The National Science Foundation ranks Temple among the top 100 universities in the country for research expenditures. Temple is the 6^th largest provider of professional education in the nation and includes Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Podiatry, Law, and Dentistry and research centers. It also is the home of the Fox Chase Comprehensive Cancer Center. Temple’s Center for the Advancement of Teaching provides outstanding programs and one-on-one mentoring to instructors to promote and support excellent teaching.
