Job Description Summary

The Department of Clinical Sciences at the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time Clinical Track position at the level of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in Equine Field Service. The individual selected to join the team of equine faculty members will provide independent primary and emergency clinical care and case management, participate in teaching and service within the Equine Section of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, provide didactic lectures in the professional curriculum, serve as unit veterinarian for the College of Veterinary Medicine equine teaching herd, and participate in graduate student and resident/intern training programs.

The duties of this position will be divided between clinical responsibilities, unit veterinarian responsibilities, didactic lectures in the professional curriculum, and training of graduate students and interns/residents. Clinical responsibilities will include independent, primary and emergency weekday case care within the Equine Field Service to our surrounding area. After-hours emergency duty is divided among Equine Field Service faculty, residents and interns. The Auburn University Equine Field Services caseload is predominately recreational and sports-oriented horses. The service has access to a variety of diagnostic equipment including digital radiography, portable ultrasound, one and three meter endoscopes, dental scope, and lameness locator as well as advance therapeutics including power dental float, laser, shockwave, IRAP, PRP, Pro-stride and Alpha-2-Macroglobulin (A2M). The field service vehicles are equipped with mobile internet. Consultation with other specialists within the college is easily accessible. Teaching activities will be conducted principally in a field setting. Unit veterinarian responsibilities include herd health and biosecurity for the university-owned equine herd as well as associated regulatory duties. The percent effort allocation toward clinical responsibilities and teaching, research, outreach and service will be established to meet the incumbent’s qualifications and interests and the needs of the Equine Section.

Minimum Qualifications

A DVM or equivalent degree and eligibility for veterinary licensure in the State of Alabama is required. The candidate must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time of the appointment and be able to continue working legally for the proposed term of employment. Excellent communication skills with clients, students and colleagues are expected.

Desired Qualifications

Eligibility for obtaining a veterinary license for the State of Georgia is desired. We desire candidates that are board certified or board eligible in an appropriate specialty college (American or European College including: Theriogenology; Internal Medicine – Large Animal; Veterinary Surgery – Large Animal; Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation-Equine, or Board of Veterinary Practitioners – Equine Practice) or have appropriate equine practice experience (minimum of 8 years).
