Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, Department of Chemical & Biomedical Engineering, West Virginia University

The Biomedical Engineering Program in the Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at West Virginia University (WVU) is soliciting applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor starting as early as Spring 2023. WVU provides strong support for the research work of its faculty, including start-up funds, renovated laboratory space and access to state-of-the-art core facilities, as well as mentorship opportunities for collaborations and individual professional growth.

Qualifications :

Candidates must hold a PhD in biomedical engineering or related discipline at the time of application; the successful candidate will be expected to establish an externally funded independent research program in Computational Bioengineering and create synergy with existing programs in the department in the areas of rehabilitation engineering and precision medicine. Candidates must have a sustainable record of scholarly research as demonstrated by the ability to publish in established national and international peer-reviewed journals, as well as teaching and mentoring experience. The duties of this position include but are not limited to: (1) developing and sustaining an externally funded interdisciplinary research program leading to national and international recognition; (2) teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and other research personnel in the area of candidate’s expertise; and (3) performing national and university service activities commensurate with the position. Additional expectations will be for the candidate to describe how active collaborations with researchers from Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources, Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute (RNI), Health Sciences Center (HSC) and associated centers and institutes could be initiated and maintained.

West Virginia University is a comprehensive land-grant institution in Morgantown, WV, with an enrollment of over 29,000 students, with Carnegie Classification –R1: Doctoral Universities Highest Research Activity. The Statler College has seven academic departments, over 4,700 students, and 135 faculty members, with about $30M in annual external research expenditures. The Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering has 18 faculty members and approximately 250 undergraduate and 67 doctoral students. The Department offers degrees at the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. levels in both chemical and biomedical engineering. The Biomedical Engineering program has seven core faculty from Chemical and Biomedical Engineering as well as several adjunct faculty members across WVU from the School of Medicine, College of Engineering, and the College of Arts and Sciences.

Morgantown and the areas in the vicinity have a diverse population of about 135,000 residents and is ranked highly among the most livable small cities in the country. The community lies within a high technology corridor that also includes several federal research facilities, is readily accessible and within driving distance from Pittsburgh, PA and Washington, DC.
