Performs a variety of routine activities, including deliveries, sorting of mail, and basic clerical tasks, for UH Libraries. Assists the Shipping and Receiving Coordinator with mailroom and event setup activities and ensures continuous staffing of the mailroom during business hours.

  1. Sorts and routes interoffice and incoming mail and shipments to their appropriate destinations.
  2. Collects and prepares outgoing mail, parcels, and packages for pickup.
  3. Notifies appropriate personnel of shipments received; personally delivers shipments and priority mail.
  4. Runs job-related errands on and off campus. May operate automobile or small truck.
  5. Performs routine clerical duties, such as filing, answering telephones, and helping with inventory.
  6. Assists the building manager with basic maintenance as required.
  7. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Duties Specific to This Position:

  1. Handles recycling collection, including organizing and palletizing used toner for pickup.
  2. Assists with setups, teardowns, and reconfigurations of chairs and tables for events in the MD Anderson Library's Elizabeth D. Rockwell Pavilion.
  3. Provides facility assistance, such as basic furniture maintenance and internal moves of boxes and furniture.
  4. Assists with annual equipment inventory, space survey, and key audit.
  5. Distributes supplies and PPE materials.
  6. Conducts off-site pickups for donors.


All work must be done on premises; not eligible for Alternative Work Arrangements.

Qualifications :

- High school diploma or GED; no experience required.

- Requires a basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. as might normally be acquired through attainment of a high school diploma or GED.

- Valid Texas Driver's License is required.

Preferred:

- Experience in a mailroom or with shipping/receiving

- Ability to direct the work of a student employee
