Job Summary: The Core Facilities Manager will be responsible for managing day-to-day operations of the lab and prototyping environments at the HRBRC’s headquarters. The incumbent will manage access to lab spaces by collaborating researchers, purchase major equipment and oversee its maintenance, train new users of equipment, maintain supply levels, and ensure safety compliance of lab spaces and their users. They will develop and organize internal systems for executing the above responsibilities.

Required Qualifications: A Master’s degree in a related field or a bachelor’s degree in a related field with related experience equivalent to a master’s degree in related field of study.

Considerable knowledge of the accepted policies, procedures, and practices in the operation a variety of laboratory equipment and collaborative spaces for designing and building biomedical devices. Considerable knowledge of the practices/procedures for successfully managing a commercial 5G hub for the internet of medical things (IoMT) used in the research and security of computing environments for health data. Working knowledge of procurement in the acquisition of equipment and space needs. Working knowledge of accepted policies, procedures and practices of billing core facilities services and the resolution of common issues. Considerable experience managing or running a research laboratory in industry or academia. Prior working experience with advanced prototyping technologies (including AR/VR, 3D printing, and microelectronics), and working experience collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.

Strong laboratory and organizational skills. Strong attention to detail. Excellent time management skill with the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently. High degree of discretion, independent judgment, and ability to effectively foster effective working interpersonal relationships. Ability to troubleshoot the equipment and find solutions. Demonstrated ability to collaborate on the design of complex experiments involving the use of highly specialized equipment. Demonstrated ability to interface with faculty, students and other lab personnel. Good capability for working both independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary setting. Demonstrated ability to Train PIs, students, etc. on use of equipment and collaborative spaces. Demonstrated ability to design and execute a system of internal controls which assure that operations are safe, effective, and efficient; that financial information is reliable; and that equipment and assets are maintained and efficiently used.

 

Preferred Qualifications:  Considerable experience working with research faculty within a university environment is preferred.
