Department of Art & Design

Art, Art History and Design influence the world, and our programs put that philosophy to good use. The Art and Design Department emphasizes the real-world connection and students can create, think, research and write in ways that are relevant to the community. Students work in various media and are encouraged to get involved in an array of internships, collaborative group and individual projects. With an attitude of learning by doing and personalized instruction, students interact closely with faculty, the university and the community. In the spirit of intense professional practice, students from Art and Design organize and install their own works of art in the senior studio art exhibition and the senior design showcase. The B.A. in Art History degree from the Art and Design Department strives to give its students a rich and thorough education in Art History. The department also offers minors: Art, Art History, Ceramics, Design, Digital Graphics and Digital Photography.

The Art and Design department includes the University Art Gallery, which presents professional exhibitions and related events throughout the academic year, and is a valuable resource to the department as well as to the University as a whole and to the surrounding community. Further amenities include working studios in ceramics, sculpture, painting and drawing and two Apple computer labs for graphic design. CSUDH's Art and Design Department continues to cultivate an academically rigorous cross-disciplinary program that prepares students for professional work post graduation.
