Department Summary
The School of Journalism and Communication (SOJC) is an accredited research and professional school serving approximately 2,500 undergraduates and 100 graduate students both on the University of Oregon campus in Eugene and at the George S. Turnbull Center in Portland. Degrees offered are the BA, BS, MA, MS, and Ph.D., as well as a minor in Media Studies. The school also supports the interdisciplinary major in Cinema Studies and interdisciplinary minors in Multimedia and Native Studies. The SOJC employs approximately 130 individuals as faculty and staff, over 50 graduate employees as well as over 50 student employees. The School is one of the oldest journalism programs in the nation, founded in 1916.
Position Summary
The Videographer 2 is a member of the SOJC Academic Operations Team within the Allen Hall Media Production Unit. The position reports to the Academic Operations Manager.

The Allen Hall Media Production Unit exists to advance the SOJC research, creative activity, grant, and partnership activities by:
  • Providing experiential-learning opportunities to undergraduates
  • Creating media for funded projects (e.g., grants, business partners, etc.)
  • Building partnerships with regional and national partners as well as media outlets

    This position supports the School of Journalism and Communication by serving as a primary videographer, editor, and media manager for the SOJC's in-house productions, as well as media partnerships with campus partners and external agencies.

    Through building and maintaining relationships with key agencies, the Videographer II's primary activities include:
  • Creating multimedia packages for on- and off-campus clients (including agencies, government organizations, UO departments, grant-funded faculty, business partners, etc.) who fund projects involving undergraduates as producers, writers, editors, and actors to enhance their educational experience
  • Facilitating client relations, recruiting student producers, and curating student-produced content prior to distribution by serving as a producer/editor for their work
  • Mentoring students, with client input, to meet and exceed project expectations

    Special requirements:
    This position requires the ability to travel to areas of the city/state that are not accessible by public transportation
    Minimum Requirements
  • Five years of television production videography experience including at least two years of broadcast quality
    experience.
    Professional Competencies
  • Ability to independently manage production projects and make professional judgments on the best approaches to meet desired outcomes
  • Ability to prioritize projects and tasks
  • Ability to delegate tasks to student assistants
    Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or above with courses in an electronic media
  • Motion Graphics/Adobe After Effects experience
  • Experience mentoring others in studio and field productions
  • One year of experience in a multimedia instructional setting
  • Experience working with partners on production projects
