About the Opportunity
Community Relations Coordinator
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Community Relations and working closely with the Director of Outreach and Programming, the Community Relations Coordinator will function as an essential member of Northeastern University's Office of City and Community Engagement (CCE) and play an integral role in a highly interactive and public facing position.
The Community Relations Coordinator will:
- Assist in building relationships with key stakeholders across the university and surrounding communities (Fenway, Roxbury, Mission Hill, Jamaica Plain, and South End neighborhoods) to better implement and develop meaningful partnerships and relationships.
- Collaborate with CCE team to buildout program concepts and content for proposals, with a specific focus on activating and monitoring programs offered by Northeastern to the surrounding communities.
- Assist CCE leadership in maintaining departmental databases, both private and public facing, to track and document successful processes/programs and areas where improvements can be made for the establishment/execution of future programs.
- Develop effective systems to manage the administrative and operational needs of Northeastern Crossing. Administrative responsibilities include scheduling of meetings in the NU Crossing space, the preparation of draft communications, documentation, and presentations on behalf of CCE.
- Serve as a liaison between the University and community on an on-going basis by attending neighborhood meetings and events, and when necessary, effectively communicating outcomes to leadership and colleagues in a timely and clear fashion. (program)
The Community Relations Coordinator will conduct relevant analysis to determine the potential impacts of programmatic work. They will record and review the data and metrics associated with program progress, particularly at Northeastern Crossing. The Community Relations Coordinator is expected to present findings concisely with related recommendations for any proposed actions.
The Coordinator will assist with the promotion of CCE's programming. They will work closely with CCE leadership to identify opportunities to increase the university's visibility and positive image of its community-engaged strategies and their impact on specific communities. The Coordinator will collaborate with other CCE members on campus-wide priorities related to community engagement. Such activities can include - but would not be limited to - serving on CCE-wide committees, participating in office-wide training, retreats, and special events.
As a key partner and trusted collaborator, the Community Relations Coordinator will execute a variety of responsibilities including routinely interfacing with university and departmental colleagues, hosting residents and community groups on campus, more specifically at the Northeastern Crossing, and assist to coordinate programs and offerings open to the public, both on and off campus. The selected individual must be able to communicate professionally and effectively on behalf of the Assistant Vice President for Community Relations, when necessary.
This position is primarily in-person, with a hybrid option.
A successful candidate must have:
- Bachelor's degree required
- 3+ years of related experience
- Perform administrative duties (Microsoft Office, understanding of Adobe products)
- Willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends.
- Have experience with strategic communications initiatives.
- Be relationship-oriented, results-driven, and possess the ability to interact professionally with a diverse range of constituencies, including external community members, faculty, staff, students and public officials.
- Possess exceptional written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills, a high degree of professionalism, sensitivity to political dynamics, a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and a proven record of strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Produce consistent excellent quality and thoroughness of work, with a high degree of attention to detail.
- Have working knowledge of the Boston community with special attention to Roxbury, Mission Hill, Jamaica Plain, Fenway, and the South End.
