Position Summary

Police Officer - University Police

Department of Public Safety and Transit

Full Time



Primary Responsibilities

Protects and serves the students, visitors, faculty, and staff of the Southeast Missouri State University campus

Patrols and protects the properties, buildings and grounds of campus

Investigates crimes for presentation to municipal and county attorneys for criminal prosecutions

Responds to requests for service and campus emergencies

Enforces student Code of Conduct and makes referrals to the Office of Student Conduct

Conducts patrols and makes routine security checks of campus buildings

Performs protective duties to provide police services in assigned areas of campus

Provides safety and crime prevention education for the campus community

Required Qualifications

Must have high school diploma or GED

Must be at least 21 years of age

College degree not required; college coursework or degree is a plus

Must submit to and pass a thorough background investigation. Must be free of any felony arrests or convictions, arrests or convictions of a crime of moral turpitude, or misdemeanor convictions for crimes of domestic violence

Must be current and in good standing with Missouri Department of Public Safety and licensed in accordance with Missouri Peace Officers Standards and Training Act of 1979 (POST)

New academy graduates welcome: experience is a plus

Must possess a valid Missouri operator's license

Must pass police officer selection test at the semi-finalist stage. Test date to be determined. Test location will be scheduled on campus

Must be available to work any hours, rotating shifts, days, nights, weekends, and holidays

Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills

Excellent problem-solving abilities

Demonstrated experience and understanding of customer service and community policing philosophy

Demonstrated commitment to a diverse work environment, including working with multi-cultural populations and an understanding of, and sensitivity to, issues affecting women and minorities
