City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), the largest community college system in Illinois, is made up of seven colleges and five satellite sites, providing more than 70,000 students each year access to a quality, affordable education.

Wilbur Wright College, located in northwest Chicago is one of CCC’s seven colleges, and serves as the Center of Excellence for engineering and computer science. Wright College offers associate degree and certificate programs, as well as continuing education and professional & personal development courses. Most students in engineering and computer science complete associate degrees and transfer to four-year institutions. Through its Center of Excellence, Wright College faculty and staff partner with engineering and computer science faculty, industry leaders, professional organizations, and other key leaders in the field to ensure the college’s curricula and support services provide best-in-field educational and student services to provide students with every opportunity to become successful engineers and/or computer scientists.

The Associate Dean-Center of Excellence in Engineering and Computer Science manages the college’s Center of Excellence and is responsible for providing collaborative leadership to faculty and staff in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of engineering and computer science curricula and programs. This position represents the college in the planning and implementation of on-campus and off-site education programs; works with key stakeholders on workforce education and training initiatives; and facilitates the expansion of the Center of Excellence programs and partnerships with appropriate institutions, industries, and community organizations. Performs related duties as required.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides leadership for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating engineering and computer science focused academic and non-academic programs under the college’s designation as the Center of Excellence.
  • Establishes short and long-range goals and objectives for the department and participates in forward-thinking planning efforts and program development.
  • Oversees recruitment, hiring, evaluation, discipline, and discharge of personnel within the center and related programs. Plans for adequate staffing and ensures that an appropriate pool of human resources is available to meet program/student needs.
  • Enhances current course offerings and works with faculty to develop new and innovative courses appropriate to the mission of Center of Excellence; oversees the production of the course schedule.
  • Promotes engagement opportunities where students receive information and support including peer and faculty mentoring, research experience options, internships, and job opportunities.
  • Maintains fiscal accountability for all program areas under Center of Excellence and monitors the budget. Oversees the development of proposals to seek federal, state, and local funding for specific projects and initiatives that require support beyond the district’s capabilities.
  • Works with college and district level administrators to plan and execute the overall philosophy and goals of the colleges’ Center of Excellence credit and non-credit programs.
  • Responds to current and emerging community needs, regional workplace demands, worker requirements, and district initiatives.
  • Builds and leverages networks and partnerships to advance the mission, vision, and goals of the college and the Center of Excellence.
  • Develops a strategic marketing campaign to increase enrollment; directs the publication of all Center of Excellence publicity materials.
  • Provides supervision and professional development to subordinate managers to ensure that their efforts result in achievement of district, college, department, and student goals.
  • Articulates and champions the college’s mission, vision, and values to students, faculty, staff, industry partners, associations, and other external stakeholders.
  • Provides direction and support for a variety of outreach projects and activities. Develops and maintains on-going relationships with local schools, businesses, community organizations, and other partners in support of outreach initiatives and recruitment efforts.
  • Represents the college at the District Office as it relates to the delivery of Center of Excellence services. Serves on various management committees and attends District-wide meetings as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, computer science, or a related field required.
  • Six to eight years of administrative and supervisory experience in a college setting with three to five years of work experience in the field of engineering preferred.
  • Previous work experience related to non-credit education, continuing education, dual enrollment, and/or workforce development highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of engineering and computer science institutions, organizations, and industries.
  • Demonstrated record of leadership in an academic setting, including long-range planning, budgeting, and personnel management.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and human relations skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Ability to build relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Ability to guide and motivate others toward goal achievement.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, multiculturalism, and advancing equity initiatives.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Special Requirements
  • Ability and willingness to work some evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Ability and willingness to travel between Wilbur Wright College and Humboldt Park Vocational Education Center, as needed.
Chicago residency is required for all full-time employees within six (6) months of hire.
