The Division of Anatomy at The Ohio State University College of Medicine (OSUMC) in Columbus, OH invites applications for open rank full-time faculty position with a specific focus in Musculoskeletal Anatomy and Undergraduate Education. Candidates should have a strong background in the use of information technology in the teaching of anatomy as well as the development of novel anatomy curricula for the health sciences, specifically Physical and Occupational Therapy (PT/OT). Candidates are expected to have earned a doctorate in Anatomy or a related field and possess a strong record of excellence in teaching. Preference will be given to those candidates who are dual-degreed with Doctorate in Physical Therapy or a degree in occupational therapy. Candidates will support the teaching mission of the Division of Anatomy in human gross anatomy focusing on professional and undergraduate education. Additional expectations include delivery and facilitation of Case-Based or Team-Based learning. Successful candidates are also expected to engage in collaborative research commensurate with their level of development. Track (Tenure or Clinical) and academic appointment at the level of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor will be commensurate with the candidate’s background and experience.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Full-time teaching load in multiple levels of instruction on both lecture and laboratory courses with a specific focus in human gross anatomy for PT/OT professional students and undergraduate education. Responsibilities will include collaborating with other faculty on curriculum development within anatomy courses in a team-based environment. Mentor undergraduate, graduate, and/or professional students in research projects in the applicant’s area of expertise.

Qualifications

 

  • Doctorate in the anatomical sciences or equivalent. Doctorate in Physical Therapy or a degree in occupational therapy preferred. Preference will be given to those applicants with at least three years instructional experience. Preference will be given to applicants with a strong background in the development of innovative curricula designed for professional anatomy education. Strong background in musculoskeletal anatomy. Evidence of potential for successful teaching at the college/university level. Strong written, verbal, and interprofessional skills. An eagerness to engage with colleagues, staff, and administrators to develop improvement of educational experiences for our students.

Construction of a new Anatomy Institute at The OSUMC was completed in January of 2022. This highly innovative and IT- enhanced space will include a new 3,750 square-foot morgue with seven independent laboratory spaces for undergraduate, graduate, medical and dental anatomy as well as specialized laboratories for undergraduate, outreach and medical and dental continuing education programming. The Anatomy Institute represents the first component of a new Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Center that will be completed in 2024 as part of an innovative model for health sciences education, which will create an environment that fosters the experiences and opportunities necessary for individuals to grow and become tomorrow’s health care leaders.

 

The new Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Center will include the construction of a new 59,400 square-foot Classroom Wing and back renovation of historic Hamilton Hall providing a 225,000 square-foot inter-professional learning facility composed of 33 interdisciplinary, state-of-the-art technology enhanced classrooms, 6,000 square foot student forum, 125-seat Grand Reading Room, 75-person computer center for interdisciplinary student-faculty use and numerous private study rooms and small collaboration spaces. This space will also include new office space designed to house the OSUMC Biomedical Education and Anatomy leadership, faculty and staff including specifically designed office space for Anatomy Undergraduate and Graduate Teaching Assistants. The four-story glass atrium health sciences forum will overlook a newly designed Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Quadrangle that will provide an outdoor focal point that unites medical, dental, nursing, optometry and the allied health sciences into a truly interdisciplinary health sciences campus
