Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies (2022)

The Environmental Studies Program at Washington and Lee University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the assistant professor level beginning 1 July 2023.

We would like to recruit a new colleague with a background in environmental sociology and an emphasis on environmental justice and policy. We seek candidates whose scholarship identifies current and historical environmental inequities to support policy creation for environmental progress and restorative justice. Specific focus within this field is open, though we particularly welcome applications from candidates working with Native American or Indigenous communities. The faculty member’s course load will include core courses in Environmental Studies and elective courses cross-listed in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. In addition to courses in their area of expertise, the new hire will be expected to teach Introduction to Environmental Studies, a 200-level core course in environmental social sciences, and contribute to the senior capstone course. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, creative teacher-scholar committed to high-quality undergraduate education and student-faculty research.

Terminal degree in field is required by the time of appointment (PhD preferred) with relevant graduate coursework, and teaching experience is highly desirable.
