STEAM Studio (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) is
a state-of-the-art fabrication/makerspace combining the curricular
forces of Engineering and Art. The facility is an 11,647 square
foot fabrication lab housed in a 100,000 square foot facility off
campus. STEAM was designed to nurture innovation in engineering and
art while promoting collaborations across these disciplines where
students will work side-by-side utilizing advanced woodworking
technologies, metal fabrication and computer-aided design. STEAM
Studio provides an environment where students develop and prototype
viable products, engage in creative exploration and design thinking
approaches while implementing class projects including the
Mechatronics senior design projects and Senior Exhibitions in Art
with all levels of Sculpture.
The STEAM Studio Technician is responsible for developing and administering programs and procedures to support and promote safety, equipment training, material literacy, and training in manufacturing processes. This role works directly with UNCA students, faculty, Staff, and some engagement with K-12 students in afterschool and college development programs, and community partners. The studio tech engages these stakeholders through academic classes, extra-curricular volunteer opportunities, and/or student employment.
The employee in this position may have teaching or co-teaching responsibilities of up to 3 classes per academic year
