The Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (VPUE) is seeking a creative Communications Manager whose primary responsibilities will center around creating and developing a broad set of complex communication deliverables in support of the Bing Overseas Studies Program (BOSP) —Stanford's iconic study away program in which more than 50 percent of Stanford undergraduates participate during the course of their four years. The position, which reports to VPUE's director of communications, will also periodically write news and feature stories about various undergraduate education programs and initiatives housed within VPUE. The role is based at Stanford's Palo Alto campus but can enjoy the benefit of a flexible hybrid work (mix of on-campus/off-campus) option.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Developing, leading and implementing communication deliverables primarily for the Bing Overseas Studies Program (BOSP), with the goal of raising visibility for its programs and services; providing additional support and deliverables to other programs within the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (VPUE) as needed.
  • Developing content that translates the mission for BOSP and VPUE to a broader audience through various media channels, including video/film features, newsletters and other publications.
  • Partnering with the overseas directors of the global centers to understand the needs of the centers and address their unique communications challenges.
  • Leading management of the BOSP website as the go-to online resource for BOSP programs and its services, news, and events.
  • Developing and designing complex materials according to defined requirements using Mailchimp (newsletters) and Drupal 9 (web site).
  • Serving as primary liaison to BOSP and University Communications, support development of responses to media inquiries.
  • Developing a strategy for building and maintaining outreach campaigns and social media profiles and presence.
  • Acting as a resource to all VPUE units by working to increase broader cohesion for department-specific communication teams
  • Maintaining knowledge by attending webinars, conferences, networking etc. to remain at the forefront of current industry standards, trends and technology.
  • Contributing to the development on a vast array of communications for VPUE's seven units (including BOSP) to help educate internal/external stakeholders on VPUE programs, new initiatives and events.
  • Analyzing data and curate illustrations by surveying program enrollment to collect qualitative feedback and data for communications and publications.
  • Occasionally participating in and assisting with in-person and virtual events.

To be successful in this position:
  • A bachelor's degree in related field and five years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Exceptional writing and speaking skills
  • A demonstrated understanding of both liberal education and global education as a foundation of the undergraduate experience
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills
  • A demonstrated ability to synthesize complex materials and communicate information in a manner easily understood
  • Experience with project management and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • A demonstrated ability to perform detailed work with high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse staff and stakeholder groups
  • Ability to work around an initial concept and think in terms of broad solutions
  • Ability to present creative work that leads clients through the benefits and varied considerations of recommended creative solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of web applications and mediums, including browser usability and cross platform compatibility, as well as design and formatting for email marketing platforms such as MailChimp.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, deadlines, and internal partner needs.

The Bing Overseas Studies Program (BOSP) offers Stanford undergraduates the opportunity to study away while remaining enrolled at Stanford and is considered an integral part of the Stanford curriculum. The demographic breakdown of BOSP participants closely mirrors that of the entire Stanford population. Approximately 50 percent of each graduating class studies abroad on a BOSP program during their undergraduate career at Stanford.
