Development Coordinator

General Summary

The Development Coordinator for the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing (JHSON)is an integral member of a highly successful development team at a top-ranked school of nursing. This position is vital to the success of the JHSON donor and alumni relations, and fundraising efforts. Reporting to and providing direct support to the Director of Constituent Engagement, this position will support constituent engagement through the implementation of projects, specifically with alumni engagement, events, alumni/constituent communications, gift processing and annual giving. This position will support and coordinate systems and processes for the execution of alumni engagement, and annual fund programs processes, ensuring that all plans and campaigns are completed in a timely manner.

The Development Coordinator must be able to exercise a high level of professionalism, judgement and tact in the resolution of administrative issues and perform under pressure with a high degree of accuracy, speed and diplomacy. The position requires excellent communication, computer, and time management skills and the ability to think independently.

Alumni Relations and Constituent Engagement (50%)

  • Support Associate Director of Alumni Relations and Director of Constituent Engagement in alumni relations programming including, but not limited to, mentorship opportunities, anchor alumni events (Alumni Community Week, Reunion Weekend), regional programs, student-alumni engagement opportunities, graduation, and recent alumni engagement.
  • Develop communications to support and strengthen constituent engagement including bi-monthly alumni newsletter, alumni/donor mailings, social media campaigns, alumni collateral and more.
  • Identify, prioritize and implement operational support to the Constituent Engagement program to foster an integrated system and proactive workflow environment.
  • Coordinating with the Constituent Engagement team, support Annual Giving operations for JHSON. Collaborate with Central DAR Office of Annual Giving to assist with the implementation of the JHSON Annual Fund.
  • Coordinating with the Constituent Engagement team, lead and execute student giving program.

Operations Management and Leadership Support Responsibilities (30%)

  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the donor and prospect database. Enter and maintain donor/alumni information and development/engagement activity.
  • Maintain working knowledge of gift processing and support as needed. Develop and analyze reports to track Annual Fund activity.
  • Partner with Senior Development Coordinator to ensure timely acknowledgment communications are sent to donors. Work with the business office to reconcile accounting for gift funds as needed.
  • Serve as liaison to select Central DAR departments, and with Johns Hopkins schools and divisions.
  • Develop a system of tracking to determine process excellence, in an effort to increase Annual Fund support year over year.
  • Serve as main point of contact for the office; answering calls that come into the main office telephone line and responding to messages in the office email account.

Events Management (20%)

  • Manage and execute full scope of DAR events, including development of event registration forms, event communications (mailings, emails, webpages, etc.), rsvp tracking, on-site event management and event follow-up.
  • Generate and maintain the office events calendar and timelines
  • Staff events as needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Three years related experience required.

Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but relevant development or business experience is highly valued.
  • Strong computer literacy and the ability to learn new software; comfort with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Competency in formatting Word documents and completing mail merges. SAP experience highly preferred.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • High degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and effectively.
  • Ability to work as part of an effective team securing the success of the Development and Alumni Relations program.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekend hours as needed for events.
