Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Social Psychology

Williams College Department of Psychology seeks candidates for a tenure-track position in social psychology, beginning July 1, 2023, at the assistant professor level (although a more senior appointment could be considered under special circumstances). We seek a productive scholar and excellent teacher with broad expertise in the field of social psychology whose research program can engage undergraduate students. Candidates with research interests in all subareas of social psychology are welcome to apply and will be given full consideration; however, we are especially interested in candidates whose research makes contact with contemporary social issues. These issues may include, but are not limited to, civil rights and racial equality, women’s and LGBTQ+ rights, diversity and inclusion, poverty and income inequality, biases in the criminal justice system, voter disenfranchisement, and political polarization.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in social psychology or a related discipline at the time of appointment. All offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of a background check. Further information is available at http://dean-faculty.williams.edu/prospective-faculty/background-check-policy/ .

Williams College offers substantial internal support for research and a generous sabbatical program. The teaching load typically consists of four semester-long courses per year and a January term course in alternate years. Likely courses include the social psychology section of a team-taught introductory psychology course, a 200-level introductory social psychology course, and an upper-level research seminar with a laboratory in the candidate’s area of interest. The successful candidate will also be expected to join the teaching rotation for our department’s methods and statistics laboratory course. We are especially interested in candidates from underrepresented groups as well as those who have experience working with diverse undergraduate student populations. Additional information and resources can be found at our departmental website: http://psychology.williams.edu .

Application Instructions

Applications must be submitted online at http://apply.interfolio.com/110680 . Your application should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a research statement, a teaching statement, a diversity statement, three letters of recommendation, and up to three writing samples (articles). The research statement should include a description of your research program, your future goals, and how undergraduates can be included in your research program. The teaching statement should include a description of your pedagogical approach, evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., course evaluations), and a brief description of the course you would ideally like to teach as an upper-level research seminar. The diversity statement may address your prior experiences with and your approach to building an inclusive learning environment in your teaching, mentoring, research, service, or college community, as well as how your commitment to fostering diversity, inclusion, and equity informs your research, teaching, and service.

For full consideration, applications must be submitted before October 1, 2022. Campus visits will occur in late October and early November 2022, with the hope of extending an offer by early December. Please contact Christine Russell, department administrative assistant, at cjr1@williams.edu with any questions.
