Academic Advisor for College of Business



Position Announcement

Works as an advisor for students interested in pursuing undergraduate degrees in Business-related fields (Accounting, Finance, Business Management, etc.) as well as fulfilling general education requirements. Assist students in both pre-requisites as well as major, minor and/or degree of study requirements. This position will be supervised by the Dean of the College and the Director of College Advisement and will interface closely with the Advisement Office. Responsibilities
  • Advise students for undergraduate Business-related programs in the College of Business. This includes general education, transfer, program, and graduation requirements; advise students with business pre-requisite coursework planning, as well as degree attainment planning, once admitted into a specific major.
  • Track and work with students who have declared an undergraduate Business major/minor and/or who have a pre-professional business objective. Meet with students for advisement, registration, and graduation certification.
  • Conduct interviews with eligible students preparing for graduation and advise students on post-graduate educational options if applicable.
  • Attend faculty and advisement meetings, as well as assist with advisement, recruitment, and orientation sessions.
  • Assist with the commencement program and participate in retention initiatives under the direction of the College of Business.
  • Refer students to other agencies for assistance, such as Financial Aid, Disability Resource Center, TRiO Program, Health & Wellness Center, Community Outreach programs, etc.
  • Attend professional development opportunities for advisement and the college; serve on various university committees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Two years of advising or related experience required; higher education advisement experience preferred.
  • Proficient computer skills; willingness to learn new systems.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Strong writing and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise critical human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with university stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with college admissions guidelines, standards, and procedures, and higher education admissions counseling in general.
  • Familiarity with the University’s Business program requirements preferred.
  • Background must show ability to positively relate to multi-cultural students, first generation students, non-traditional students, and students in transition.
Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time professional staff (overtime-exempt) position. Annual salary of $40,000 for Bachelor’s degree-qualified candidates and $43,000 for Master’s degree-qualified candidates. Desired start date of September 2022.
