Job Summary:

The Wisconsin Crop Innovation Center (WCIC) at the University of Wisconsin - Madison is a ~100,000 square foot state-of-the-art agricultural biotechnology complex housing laboratories and greenhouses dedicated to the production and analysis of transgenic and gene edited plants. This facility is the largest publicly held plant transformation facility in the United States and is aimed at improving crop plants for humans, livestock, and the environment.

The WCIC has an exciting career opportunity for an experienced molecular biologist to join the newly created Plant Analysis Team. Together with our current Plant Analysis Lead, the Plant Analysis Specialist will engage in a wide variety of tasks associated with handling a variety of transgenic crops emerging from the Production Pipeline and entering the Greenhouse. The primary responsibility of this position is rapid (2-4 day) turn-around of PCR-based plant analysis to validate that client plants have been successfully transformed in accordance with their contract. Characterization of transgenic plants is performed using multiplexed endpoint PCR analyses, qPCR and/or droplet digital PCR assays. Most client projects require additional testing steps (eg. sampling/plant evaluation across time/promoter induction/specific crossing instructions) over time and into the future generations to advance progeny and recover homozygous seed set. The successful candidate will also be responsible for interacting with the existing molecular team to generate and improve protocols. This position is both to generate data/upload it into the LIMS program and to communicate it to the client in a timely manner. The successful candidate will also be responsible for conducting literature reviews, training junior staff members, and assisting with the development of research methodologies and procedures. There may also be the opportunity to assist with proposals to secure research funding.

People from backgrounds underrepresented in the sciences are strongly encouraged to apply.
