The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) and the Clinical & Translational Science Institute of Southeast Wisconsin (CTSI) is inviting applications for the newly created position of CTSI Associate Director of Data Science.  The incoming Associate Director will have the opportunity to advance scientific knowledge by overseeing a collaborative enterprise that applies semantic tools, methodologies, and approaches to innovative biomedical research. The Director will oversee the CTSI’s efforts in the collection, integration, and mining of phenotypic, clinical, and multi-omics data with the goal of advancing our understanding of the biological pathways, networks, and genetic interactions that underlie human disease. We seek candidates with strong leadership and communication skills, a track record of successful interdisciplinary research collaborations, and direct experience developing integration strategies and methodologies in support of biomedical research with relevant experience in one or more disease areas (e.g., cardiovascular, oncology, neurology, GI, infectious diseases).

 

The ideal candidate should possess MD, MD/PhD or PhD degree in bioinformatics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, biostatistics, or a related field; a prior academic appointment in informatics or a relevant discipline; and a minimum of 7-10 years of experience in scientific computing role in Life Sciences research.

  • The CTSI at MCW was founded in 2010 with the support of a $20 million dollar grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) led by Dr. Reza Shaker. The CTSI comprises MCW, Versiti Blood Research Institute/Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin, Children’s Wisconsin, Clement Zablocki VA Medical Center, Froedtert Hospital, Marquette University, Milwaukee School of Engineering, and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The CTSI members work to translate research discoveries more quickly into preventative, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions for patients. Consortium members share resources, technology, knowledge, and expertise to “Advance Health through Research and Discovery.” The CTSI mission is to develop an integrated, shared home for clinical and translation research, education, and training, hallmarked by a borderless, collaborative, synergistic, and investigator/community/patient friendly environment that is functionally integrated into local, regional, and national CTSA networks.
