Position Overview

Under the general direction of the Director of Enterprise Solutions, the Manager of Analytics and BI oversees the institution's information technology projects/activities and provides strategic leadership for centralized, enterprise-level data as service delivery. Leads and manages a team to ensure the area’s technological level remains up to date, defines standards, and implements new procedures and techniques. Participates in the strategic planning for the Office of Information Technology. Establishes team goals and objectives and implements programs to maximize customer satisfaction and operational efficiencies. Effectively collaborates across technology teams and business units through excellent communication skills, diplomacy, and a positive attitude to meet institutional objectives and provide support resources.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions

Responsible for leading the design and support of enterprise-wide business intelligence applications and architecture. Works with enterprise-wide business and IT management to understand and prioritize data and information requirements. Lease team of analysts that use a variety of statistical methodologies to solve quantitative business issues and increase organizational effectiveness. Prepares complex reports and gathers intelligence data to make informed conclusions on business practices and present findings and progress to key executives. Optimizes the performance of enterprise business intelligence tools to add value to the user. Creates testing methodology and criteria. Designs and coordinates a curriculum for coaching and training clients in the use of business intelligence tools to enhance business decision-making capability.
  • Develops standards, policies, and procedures for the form, structure, and attributes of business intelligence tools and systems.
  • Develops data/information quality metrics.
  • Research new technology and develops business cases to support enterprise-wide business intelligence solutions.
  • Manages professional staff and daily operations, provides technical expertise to staff supervised and resolves problems escalated to the Manager level.
  • Develops work plans, goals, and objectives in relation to staff activities to ensure service delivery and alignment with OIT priorities.
  • Monitors, analyzes, and reports on the progress of service delivery; takes a customer-centric approach to problem-solving; solicits customer feedback to improve service; and responds to customer needs.
  • Assesses, identifies, and recommends innovative solutions that provide continuous improvement in the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Qualifications/Experience Required

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts for analytics and business intelligence. Strong understanding and experience with managing PowerBI infrastructure, application life cycle, and report development team. Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results with 5+ years of experience. Must have previous management experience.

Qualifications/Experience Preferred

Previous experience in data analytics/business intelligence with leadership or managerial role. Experience in higher education. Appropriate professional accomplishments and credentials.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as a strong knowledge of current BI and analytics industry practices.

Must possess strong customer service and interpersonal skills, along with strong analytical, organizational, and collaboration skills. Ability to work independently, or with specialized groups, while maintaining a courteous attitude when dealing with students, faculty, and staff. Ability and willingness to complete several concurrent tasks in a fast-paced, detail-oriented, multitasking environment. Ability to set objectives, manage project timelines, and see projects to completion. The successful candidate will possess excellent written and oral communication skills. Solid presentation skills. Ability to explain technical terms in everyday language. Ability to work directly with senior-level executives. Must have the ability to problem solve, troubleshoot, be attentive to detail, and understand implications for the academic context. This position is on-call 24x7x365 and requires the successful candidate to have high-speed internet access to their residence and maintain a smartphone on which to receive telephone calls, email, and SMS messages from servers and authorized OIT personnel.
