POSITION OVERVIEW

Providence University College invites applicants for one full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Sociology. By the time of appointment, applicant must have an earned Ph.D. degree in sociology, or a related field.

The successful candidate will contribute to the established sociology program and join a vibrant department that brings together natural scientists and social scientists at Providence. They will teach a variety of courses each semester, mentor sociology majors, and eventually supervise sociology or social science honours students. In addition to introductory sociology, possible courses include marriage and family, sociological theory, critical issues, media and society, gender, sociology of sport, sociology of health, sociology of religion, social science and Christianity, global issues, and/or other courses based on the applicant’s areas of expertise.

As is typical within Providence, this position is predominantly a teaching-focused faculty position. Research and/or public scholarship goals are additional assets.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will have:

  • Earned doctorate in sociology, or a related field.
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
  • Knowledge of pedagogical best practices for in-person and online courses.
  • Evidence of mentorship potential.
  • Ability to work well with students, staff, and faculty in a collegial environment.
  • Desire to infuse their Christian faith into all aspects of their role.
