Position Summary

Faculty Advancement and Student Success (DFASS) fosters inclusive academic excellence through support for faculty careers, professional development, community engagement, and student academic support and enrichment, including the Weber Honors College and the Interdisciplinary Studies in Three Departments major.

The Administrative Support Coordinator contributes to the mission of FASS by managing key operations, including divisional support for EAB users, external communications, Personnel Action Files, and inventory. The incumbent provides direct support for the AVPFASS and manages front-line communications and contacts with skill and understanding.

Full-time, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

This position is physically located at the SDSU Main Campus in San Diego.

Education and Experience

Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.

These qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in business administration, humanities or social sciences, or allied fields.
  • Experience with EAB Navigate
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to manage several projects at once
  • Ability to maintain a cordial and pleasant relationship with Administrators, Faculty, Staff, Students, and members of the community.
  • Experience working effectively with diverse faculty and staff at a university level
  • Three to five years of experience providing administrative support and analyses
  • Understanding of nature and purpose of undergraduate advising

Specialized Skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially with respect to (1) generating complex, yet accessible, documents with Word, (2) employing various function and features with Excel to analyze, update and report on various kinds of data, and (3) producing clear and effective visual presentations using PowerPoint.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources. Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $3,583 per month.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,440- $5,639 per month.

SDSU Vaccine Policy

In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus. Individuals are considered fully vaccinated for five months after their final dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine or for two months after receiving the only dose of a single-dose vaccine. Afterward a COVID-19 booster is required to continue to be considered fully vaccinated.

The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university's secure online health portal prior to beginning work. Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU's COVID-19 testing program.
