The Daniel K. Inouye Graduate School of Nursing (GSN) at the USU in Bethesda, Maryland invites applications for the Associate Dean for Research (ADR) and Director of the Faye Glenn Abdellah (FGA) Research Center. The ADR/Director of the FGA Research Center is a member of the executive leadership team of the GSN. The ADR is expected to provide leadership in the PhD, DNP, and master’s educational and research missions, including research program development, externally funded grants, graduate curriculum, and faculty and student mentorship.  As the GSN's senior academic officer for research, the ADR will provide visionary and strategic direction for high-quality research and scholarly activities. The ADR assumes major responsibility for facilitating and stimulating funding and implementation of research that supports the military and federal health system.  Activities of the incumbent will be coordinated with the Dean and the other Associate/Assistant Deans. 

 

The ADR must possess an earned research doctorate and an active nursing license.  In addition, communication, management, and leadership skills necessary to promote the diverse research and educational activities of the GSN are essential.  Preferred requirements include (1) evidence of progressive scholarly achievements including data-based publications, current funding, and a successful program of extramurally funded research (2) a record of progressive leadership and development while overseeing a major academic or research program (3) excellence in teaching at the graduate level and (4) prior experience establishing collaborative partnerships with other disciplines, health care agencies, and industry.  

The position of ADR is an administrative appointment, is non-tenured, and may be renewed in five (5) year terms by the Dean of the GSN.  The position requires a formal faculty appointment in the Research-Education (Tenure Eligible) Track of the GSN, USU, at the rank of Associate Professor or higher.  With the approval of the USU President, the academic rank of associate or full professor (tenure-eligible or with tenure) in the GSN will be permanent regardless of administrative appointment.

This CCNE accredited school offers DNP program options in Nurse Anesthesia, Nurse Practitioner (Family, Women’s Health & Psychiatric Mental Health), and Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist (perioperative option). The Ph.D. program has a research-intensive focus in the areas of operational readiness, and military and federal health.  The GSN is committed to promoting clinical excellence and furthering research and scholarship in healthcare. Located within USU, the school enjoys interdisciplinary relationships with medicine, dentistry, public health, and other health-related professions.
