Position Announcement

Utah Tech University Advancement is hiring a Development Officer to be responsible for the qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of giving prospects. The candidate will work with donors to link their passions to the University’s priorities. This individual must be creative, detail-oriented, possess strong organizational and communication skills, and be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

The candidate will participate in strategic development for the development team and is responsible for solicitation strategies specific to their proposals and goals. Building and maintaining an effective working relationship with campus leadership is key to success and growth as a Development Officer. Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a thoughtful strategy for each prospect/donor, including ways to increase involvement in university activities. Utilize both current and planned gift opportunities to best meet donors’ needs, philanthropic interests and financial capabilities.
  • Meet qualification calls/visits, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors appropriately, emphasizing those that have given or are capable of giving support to Utah Tech.
  • Utilize Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge Prospect Management Software to manage donor relations and track fundraising progress with the development team.
  • Build a broad base of fundraising knowledge in order to discuss gift vehicles, including cash, planned gifts, securities, real estate and other gifts to maximize discussions with donors and tailor proposals to their situation and wishes.
  • Meet with development colleagues and university partners, including alumni and athletics (as appropriate), to discuss major donor prospects, strategy and solicitation.
  • Create and maintain an effective working rapport with the dean(s) of the specific college(s) to which the Development Officer is assigned. In coordination with the deans, advisory councils, and/or campaign committees, guide strategic development activities and consult with these individuals to ensure success and the attainment of college or program priorities.
  • Utilize advancement resources to provide regular individual and team progress reports on development officer, college and program fundraising performance. Complete and update reports of all contacts/proposals in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required; Master's degree preferred.
  • At least two (2) years’ professional experience in fundraising required; experience fundraising within higher education preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, including excellent writing and editing skills.
  • A history of persistence and resourcefulness in development and executing solicitation strategies.
  • Proven success in the solicitation process from prospecting through “making the ask” and closing the gift.
  • Knowledge and experience using fundraising software.
  • Record of success in establishing productive relationships with alumni, students, faculty and staff; ability to work productively with the community.
  • Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information.
  • Highly-developed organizational skills, including the ability to work under pressure to handle multiple prospects and requests, and meet competing deadlines and fundraising goals.
  • Ability to foster a positive and professional image with external and internal partners.
Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time professional staff (overtime-exempt) position. Annual salary of $65,000+ depending on qualifications & experience. Desired start date of September 2022.
