Job Summary

Oracle Database Administrator
The central office of Information Technology at Auburn University is seeking applicants for Oracle database administration, Ellucian Banner administration, as well as administration of associated applications. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, Oracle database and application server administration, including backup, recovery, installation, and maintenance of Oracle software, supporting associated applications such as Banner. Applicant must be able to perform intermediate Linux skills preferably on Redhat.

Formal AU Title: Specialist, Information Technology (IV/V/VI)

Essential Functions

Essential Functions/Responsibilities Include:
  • Backup and recovery of oracle databases using RMAN .
  • Install/Upgrade and configure Oracle database on a Linux operating system.
  • Write Korn/Bash, Shell and Perl scripts.
  • Familiar with Tomcat/Apache application
  • Familiar with Transparent Data Encryption ( TDE )
  • Be able to perform a hot clone of an oracle database with or without TDE
  • Familiar with network connections using TNS files
  • Ability to manage an oracle database listener
  • Configures and maintains database monitoring rules and applications
  • Maintain knowledge of and schedule relevant security patches for databases
  • Experience with Fleet maintenance a plus
  • Requests firewall rules to enable client connectivity where appropriate
  • Familiar with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure ( OCI ) is a plus
  • Ability to use Oracle Enterprise Manager ( OEM ) efficiently

The Oracle Database Administration position is posted at three IT levels.

The Level IV DBA must have a minimum of five (5) years of database support experience as detailed. Relevant college degree may substitute toward the experience requirement at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience. Typical starting salaries for this level are between $53K and $66K.

Requirements for Additional Job Levels

The Level V position requires a Bachelor’s degree and four (4) or more years of relevant experience in database administration in a business or university setting. Salaries are typically between $64K and $76K.

The Level VI position requires a Bachelor’s degree and seven (7) or more years of relevant experience in database administration in a business or university setting. Salaries are typically between $74K and 87K.
Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Skills and Abilities

Excellent communication skills including the ability to articulate technical concepts effectively to non-technical customers. Candidates must possess: an in-depth knowledge and understanding of database technologies; working knowledge in relational databases. Candidates must possess strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to build and maintain relationships within project teams and across the organization.

Minimum Technology Skills

Minimum qualifications include: Experience in the following areas: Linux (Redhat) preferred; Oracle 19c; Oracle Database Administration; Oracle Weblogic Server and Oracle Enterprise Manager ( OEM ). The following languages and tools are also desired: PL/ SQL, Ellucian Banner; Perl; and Korn/Bash Shell.
