Position Overview:

The Institutional Researcher provides leadership and performs necessary functions related to the collection, analysis, and interpretation of institutional data for planning, assessment, and decision making by multiple work units at Unity College.

The Institutional Researcher also facilitates access to information maintained in data information systems to support Unity Colleges operations while monitoring key institutional indicators. Additionally, this position is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the data/information released in reports or studies, while providing data analysis, reporting, or research as needed to support institutional objectives and external compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Establishes, administers and coordinates Unity College's institutional research activities including collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting information for the College for use in decision making.
  • Serves as liaison across work units and provides necessary support for the College's organizational effectiveness, planning, accreditation, evaluation, and program assessment activities.
  • Works closely with appropriate College offices in research and provides the statistical analysis needed for various projects in areas such as enrollment management, curriculum, instruction, and alumni.
  • Responsible for creating data reports, including publication of internal data sets, Census Data, Institutional Review data, Program Review data, and other reports to support institutional goals.
  • Researches and submits data for third-party surveys, including Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), NC SARA, Maine Department of Higher Education and other external constituents as needed.
  • Assists in the preparation, follow-up, and reports for New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE), and related accreditation agencies as well as in the College's efforts to secure grants.
  • Ensures timely posting of content, maintains a master database of completed surveys, and pursues continuous improvement of the College's position on external sites.
Required:
  • Master's degree and 3 - 5 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experienced in creating database SQL queries and data modeling.
  • Exceptional problem solving, analytical, and research skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and presentation, and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable working with a range of technology platforms and software packages, including spreadsheets, graphics/presentation, word processing, and statistical analysis.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and abilities in managing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and under time pressure.
  • Ability to anticipate, interpret, and quickly respond to and continuously improve quality of data needs of administration.
  • Ability to conceptualize strategic use of data.
  • Understanding of how to handle confidential information appropriately and effectively.
  • Ability to function effectively within a matrix organizational structure, maintaining open lines of communication while being discreet, courteous and well poised.
Preferred:
  • Knowledge of Salesforce customer relations systems.
Work Schedule / Availability Requirements

Work hours are specific to the requirements of this position and can include days, evenings, and weekends. Working extended hours required as needed. Must be flexible and cooperative in fulfilling responsibilities and meeting the Colleges needs. Although Unity College employees are generally scheduled to work at their specifically assigned locations, there are times when travel is necessary and employees are required from time to time to attend events, meetings or work temporary assignment at any Unity College location.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, it is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand or walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The use of either hand for repetitive movements such as grasping, grasping and turning, and fine manipulation is required as is the ability to use the telephone for internal and external communications.
