Job Summary:

UW-Madison; Educational Psychology Department is seeking a candidate to teach a graduate level Educational Psychology course, Biological Bases of Behavior in Fall 2022. This course is part of the School Psychology graduate program in the Department of Educational Psychology in the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

This course is a graduate-level course that focuses on neuroscience foundational concepts relevant to clinical mental health practice, neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, psychopharmacology, and ontological and phylogenic neurodevelopment. In addition, the course emphasizes and integrates cultural implications of these scientific advances.

Under the direction of the Department Chair and the School Psychology Program Area Chair:
1. Teach assigned course (s) as specified in the lecturer agreement. This includes 1 class session of 3 hours each week.
2. Evaluate and select instructional materials, prepare course materials
3. Provide students an approved syllabus using the UW-Madison syllabus template that includes all the necessary components of a well-developed syllabus
4. Integrate relevant topics and concepts based on accreditation standards from professional organizations (e.g., American Psychological Association)
5. Use the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) to post syllabus, assignments, other materials, and communicate with students
6. Deliver the course content using different strategies to engage students in high quality instruction
7. Observe and provide timely feedback to students their progress in meeting course outcomes/learning objectives
8. Be available for student consultation through office hours and/or schedule appointments.
9. Maintain records of attendance, assessment and grades, submit final grades.
10. Encourage students to submit course evaluations, review course evaluations when available and use feedback to make course improvements.

Responsibilities:

Facilitates classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction and assists with instructional development and design for a single course or series of courses within an academic discipline to support the delivery of quality instruction. Provides for-credit instruction in formats such as classroom, online and/or laboratory settings, including grading. Serves as an instructor of record.
  • 30% Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction for one or more courses, including assessment of student performance
  • 60% Develops instructional design and curriculum relevant to a course of instruction
  • 10% Serves as an initial point of contact for students as it relates to specific course or series content and expectations

Education:

Preferred
Terminal Degree
PhD required in school psychology, clinical psychology, or a related field

Qualifications:

1. Current knowledge of the relevant discipline, including integrating neuroscience concepts from across disciplines (e.g., school, clinical, counseling)
2. Evidence of prior instruction of post-secondary education courses preferred
3. Ability to respond to the needs of learners from a variety of educational backgrounds and learning styles
4. Ability to use technology effectively
5. Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team
6. Excellent written communication skills
7. Good organizational skills and timeliness in responding to student inquiries

Preferred
1. Licensed as a school psychologist or psychologist
2. Experience in using Canvas learning management system
3. Understanding of technological trends and integrating high-quality instruction across multiple modalities within an in-person environment

Work Type:

Part Time: 25% - 75%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
