Schedule Information: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.. Occasional evening and weekend work is required to perform duties of this job.

Duties of Position: Leads internal communications and drives increased understanding and support for the college’s mission, strategic plan, communications initiatives and other campaigns. This position will provide guidance for employee engagement strategies and leverage technological solutions to enhance the college’s internal communication efforts. Oversees production of weekly e-newsletter and organizes and runs employee town halls, all-employee meetings and other forums. Develops communication strategies that advance change management initiatives, strengthen college culture and support the college’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Develops internal communication strategies and clear, informative and inclusive messaging to communicate college goals, initiatives and student success measures across all employee groups.

Actively seeks, develops, manages, writes and edits compelling content for weekly e-newsletter, intranet, website, publications and other employee communication vehicles to enhance communication and promote dialogue with employees around key internal issues.

Provides counsel to administration regarding best practices for effective internal communications and develops consistent, coordinated messages for employee groups that inform, inspire and increase understanding and adoption of initiatives and changes.

Develops metrics and solicits measurable feedback to assess stakeholder awareness and internal communications effectiveness.

Collaborates with HR, IT, Institutional Research and other teams in developing and analyzing employee surveys and other feedback vehicles.

Researches industry best practices and communication tools for internal communication.

Establishes guidelines and procedures and recommends policies pertaining to internal communication, including administration of the employee intranet.

Develops and maintains close relationships across the college to identify storytelling opportunities and gaps in employee communication.

Collaborates with senior leadership to organize all-employee meetings, town halls and other internal forums, helping to oversee logistics and content including agendas and presentations.

Identifies meaningful opportunities for the President and senior leadership to interact with Harper’s employees; promotes a positive image of the Office of the President and senior management for the purpose of creating cooperative working relationships.

Participates as a member of the crisis communication team, with a focus on internal audiences.

Develops special projects and special events as requested.

Performs related duties as required.

Educational Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations or related field.

Experience Requirements: Minimum of five years of experience in internal communication, public relations, marketing, publications, journalism or related fields. Proven success managing or supporting internal communications in a large organization preferred.

Experience using communications vehicles including web, intranet, social media and print is required. Preferred competencies include exceptional written and verbal communication, problem-solving, time management, project management and organizational skills. Must be a self-starter and relationship builder. Committed to advancing the college’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. Identifies trends and best practices for the purpose of continuous improvement. Must be able to quickly synthesize difficult concepts into clear and concise messages.

Knowledge of digital marketing software, Microsoft Office applications (including PowerPoint and Excel), WebEx, SharePoint and basic graphic design platforms helpful.
