Position Overview & Responsibilities

The Equipment Manager is responsible for the oversight of all areas of the athletic department’s primary equipment room operations supporting 25 NCAA Division I intercollegiate programs. This individual will work closely with coaches to coordinate, purchase inventory, and maintain all department-issued apparel and gear. In addition, this position will work closely with the football program to secure inventory, distribute and repair protective gear and sport-specific equipment.

The equipment manager must monitor, verify, and reconcile the expenditure of budgeted funds to ensure fiscal solvency. This full-time position reports directly to the Deputy Director of Athletics and will represent Merrimack Athletics with the highest level of professionalism and integrity, serving as a positive representative of the department. The Equipment Manager must act in accordance with all NCAA Division I, Northeast Conference and Merrimack College rules, regulations and policies.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Coordinate equipment room operations to include: working with coaches on coordinating, purchasing, inventorying, and maintaining all departmental issued apparel and gear.

  2. Oversee laundry service for the athletic department issued apparel for those teams with locker rooms located in the athletics facilities.

  3. Ensure all teams have proper apparel and gear for practice and competition.

  4. Ensure that football protective gear including helmets and pads are ordered, inventoried, conditioned and maintained to ensure appropriate certification and meeting required safety standards; order other required football equipment as needed.

  5. Oversee equipment budget and consistently communicate with manager of administrative services; monitor, verify, and reconcile the expenditure of budgeted funds to ensure fiscal responsibility and accountability.

  6. Ensure that quotes are obtained from appropriate vendors, purchase orders are requested and payments are processed in a timely manner through the proper athletic department and college protocols.

  7. Maintain an updated inventory list for each program including a breakdown of all athletics department issued equipment, gear and apparel, which can be provided to manager of administrative services or appropriate sport administrator on request.

  8. Hire, direct, oversee and manage the work of all student equipment workers; ensure payroll for student workers is submitted in a timely manner.

  9. Ensure that the football visiting team needs are appropriately met for home games.

  10. Stock and prepare the officials locker room for all home football and all home men’s and women’s basketball games (beverages, towels, etc.).

  11. Travel with the football program to away contests.

  12. Represent the program with the highest level of professionalism, sportsmanship and integrity.

  13. Foster and maintain a culture that demonstrates a commitment to NCAA rules compliance, Northeast Conference requirements, and institutional policies.

  14. Foster and maintain a culture that demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging as well as trust and mutual respect.

  15. Participate in departmental activities including staff meetings, compliance education, diversity, equity and inclusion training, guest speaker presentations and other events/meetings.

  16. Fulfill other specific areas of responsibilities as assigned by the deputy director of athletics.



Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferred.

  • Experience in equipment operations including laundering, distribution and inventory in a NCAA Division I athletics program and/or professional sports team.

  • Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.

  • Proven experience in equipment budget management and fiscal responsibility.

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with strong communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills including the ability to complete tasks by established deadlines.

  • AEMA certification preferred.
