Overview

Under the supervision of the Office of the Dean for Research Unit, the Technology and Event Production Specialist is responsible for 1) managing a wide range of technology including Windows PCs and servers, and advanced networking and telecommunications infrastructure, event production software, lead management software, department and event websites, and 2) producing high quality events for national, regional, and international constituents. These highly complex events will be held in-person, remote or in a hybrid format, and scale from small groups of participants to attendance in the thousands for remote events. Technology duties include, but are not limited to, installation/configuration/upgrades of OS & applications, daily administrative tasks including maintenance of user accounts, monitoring system resources, performing backups, maintenance of departmental printers and ensure network security. Event production duties include but are not limited to managing all audio/visual aspects and live production of both in person and electronic events. Additionally, the Technology and Event Production Specialist will take the technical lead on evaluating and recommending software programs for the management of complex departmental projects.

The Technology and Event Production Specialist will participate in meetings and plan, schedule, organize and manage projects from beginning to end, ensuring that project goals and/or objectives and deliverables are accomplished. Position may have to work off regular hours based on projects and deadlines and may occasionally need to be on call 24/7.

The Technology and Event Production Specialist will be responsible for these needs for the Princeton Entrepreneurship Council and for Princeton Innovation initiatives and programs under the Office of the Dean for Research. Although time dedicated to each group will vary from week to week, overall, the work is generally expected to be split evenly throughout.



Responsibilities
Event Support Manage high profile, global events from the production standpoint.
Troubleshoot problems with equipment, complete basic repairs.
Setup and operate event platform
Maintain, organize and inventory in house equipment for the production of departmental events
Support department in technical needs for communicating and registering for programming.
Occasionally serve as primary contact person for event production requiring AV beyond the typical departmental events.
Performs all pre-event technical checks, advising on sound, light, and environment.

Technology Support

Administer, maintain, and support the multiple operating systems, servers, advanced networking and telecommunications infrastructure (hardwire and wireless).
Manage mentoring platform for PEC and Matrix platform for I-Corps.
Install, configure, and troubleshoot a variety of desktop computing applications, networking applications, server administration and information access tools in a heterogeneous environment.
Maintain updates, back-ups, and antivirus protection for all laptops, handhelds and PCs, as well as departmental printers.
Construction, design, development, maintenance and management of all website processes and input in order to maintain and update websites for both PEC and Princeton Innovation in the Drupal platform.

General Departmental Support
Maintain the hardware inventory for all desktops, laptops, printers, handhelds, digital cameras, scanners, projector, printers, etc. Configure technology for operation on campus. Provide software support for the same suite of products. Troubleshoot connection and software issues when they arise.
Purchase of software and hardware and prepare equipment for surplus.
Develop and recommend technology plan and budget for current and future needs.
Develop user documentation and support end user training for systems, as needed.
Act as liaison to the OIT for technology issues.
Provide technical support as needed and often respond during non-regular work hours.




Qualifications

Required

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent with 3+ years of experience in the field.
  • Experience with operating systems, backup systems and protocols
  • Experience with firewalls and other security protocols
  • Experience of administering servers and Local Area Networks
  • Good understanding of comment network protocols like TCP/IP, LDAP
  • Experience with SQL Servers, Queries and Security and database replication
  • Experience in Zoom, WebEx, MS Teams, and/or other virtual conference platforms
  • Experience with video editing (Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, iMovie)
  • Must be well organized and communicate well with non-technical and technical users
  • Demonstrate a strong desire to keep abreast with latest technologies
  • Skilled in the principles and practices of IT services organization, administration and planning and
  • Knowledge of programming and scripting ability and lead the evaluation of software platforms, services, and technologies as appropriate for the department's needs
  • Conversant in the principles of instruction and project management and problem-solving strategies
  • Must be physically able to life and move a variety of machines and equipment, including computers and event production equipment
Preferred

  • Degree in technical field highly preferred
  • Entrepreneurial experience is a plus
