Job Details
The Skidmore College Departments of Biology and Chemistry are seeking an Academic Administrative Assistant for Purchasing and Budgets, for a full-time, 12-month position. The administrative assistant provides support for faculty and students of the Biology and Chemistry Departments. In addition, this position provides purchasing and budget support for the Skidmore Analytical Instrumentation Laboratory, the Skidmore Microscopy Imaging Center, the Animal Research Facility, faculty and students engaged in Skidmore Summer Collaborative Research, and other science-related programs that Biology and Chemistry faculty and students participate in. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: purchasing supplies, equipment, and services; obtaining quotes; researching and negotiating pricing; maintaining budgets and spending records; providing reports, projections, and historical budget information; and coordination of daily deliveries and large equipment installations.
Requirements: The position requires frequent interaction and coordination with outside vendors, sales representatives, and colleagues from many departments and programs on campus. Therefore, excellent communication skills are required. Additionally, the position requires strong online purchasing skills, time-management and organizational skills, attention to detail, deadline tracking and follow-up, strong task focus and flexibility, the ability to work independently with strong decision making and problem-solving skills, basic supervisory skills, and a high level of confidentiality.
Experience: Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel is required, and familiarity with Oracle Cloud is valuable. Previous experience in purchasing and management is desired.
Education: Associate Degree or equivalent with 2-3 years of experience
