About the University:

California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) opened in 2002 as the newest campus in the California State University system. Since that time, the University has grown and developed into one of the premier public universities, not only in the California State University system, but also in the nation. About the Program:

The Performing Arts program is in the process of being redesigned into three separate degree programs, Dance Studies, Theater and Performance Studies, and Music, and aims to provide an inclusive learning environment that promotes and values creativity, collaboration, and culture through the lenses of dance, music, theater, and performance, offering students a strong foundation of performance skills in the areas of dance, music, and theater as well as new media. Coursework is anchored in imagination, individual experiences, current and historical events, and the performance traditions of diverse cultures, all as sources of artistic expression and intellectual inquiry.

About the Position:

The Performing Arts Program at CI invites qualified applicants to teach Performing Arts – Music courses such as PAMU 109/309 Private Lessons in Piano in online, hybrid, or face-to-face modalities, according to program and student needs . Additional opportunities to teach other PA MU prefix courses in the future are dependent on qualifications, budget, and enrollment growth.

Minimum Degree Requirements:

An M.A. from an accredited institution in Performing Arts/Dance/Music/Theater or a related field, OR a B.A. and significant professional experience in a relevant field.

Required Qualifications :
  • Experience in culturally-responsive, anti-racist pedagogies and/or artistic practices.
  • Applicants should demonstrate the commitment to effectively work with and engage a diverse student population and evidence of how they would successfully mentor minoritized students with special focus on Latinx, Black/African American, American Indian, and Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander students.
Preferred Qualifications :
  • M.F.A., Ph.D., or other terminal degree, or ABD in Performing Arts/Dance/Music/Theater or closely related field
  • Significant professional experience in a relevant field
  • Experience in teaching performance techniques and traditions of one or more minoritized cultures
Responsibilities:

For the Fall 2022 semester, teach a section Performing Arts Music courses: PAMU 109 and PAMU 309 Private Lessons in Piano. Additional opportunities to teach other PAMU prefix courses in future semesters are dependent on qualifications, enrollment growth, and program needs.
