Job Summary:
The TFD Studio Technician is charged with maintaining the organization of supplies and tools within the studios of the Department of Design Studies. In the dye kitchen the Studio Technician is responsible for collecting and archiving the recipes in a binder, organizing a binder of samples of fabric so students know where to order proper supplies for their projects, and making sure proper safety signage is on display.
Additionally, the Studio Technician will monitor the shared dye chemicals, emulsion and stripper, rust remover, printer ink, and make an order request when items are running low. When the supplies arrive, the Studio Technician will be responsible for restocking the dye lab. There will also be general lab maintenance including: cleaning and organizing, floors, tables, shelves, hood, pots and tools. There will also be times where the technician will coordinate and organize donated materials.
Other tools that the Studio Technician will be responsible for maintaining include iron/iron board, sewing machines, sergers, exposure table and wash booth, dress forms, big printer, etc. Other tasks include preparing dye concentrates, indigo set up and emulsion mixing. Once a semester the technician will help maintain the digital looms by winding new warps and threading the machine.
The Studio Technician will be charged with helping students prepare silk screens, set up looms and use large scale textile printers.

Work Schedule:
This position will be expected to work 12 hours per week. Typically the schedule will be either 1 PM-7PM Mondays and Tuesdays or Tuesdays and Wednesdays depending on need of the department and the course schedule. These days and/or times may fluctuate as relates to the Design Studios needs.
This position will work fewer hours during the summer and may have a seasonal break at that time.

- 25% Assists with the use of equipment, systems, and on-site coordination as required
