Position Summary
The Science & Engineering Node Services ( SENS ) is looking for a Windows system administrator to support a dynamic STEM research and instructional environment. The incumbent will be serving the students, faculty, and staff of the School of Engineering and the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. Position Summary
The Science & Engineering Node Services ( SENS ) is looking for a Windows system administrator to support a dynamic STEM research and instructional environment. The incumbent will be serving the students, faculty, and staff of the School of Engineering and the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. Our mission is to assist our diverse community in accomplishing their research and teaching needs as we grow as one of the top public research universities in the nation.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide system hardware support: Support and troubleshoot a variety of problems on systems that include servers, workstations, laptops, wireless/network devices, printers, and related instructional technology devices. Tasks include the deployment and maintenance of systems within our infrastructure.
- Provide system software support: Support and troubleshoot a variety of problems with operating systems and applications. Tasks include the ability to troubleshoot on the relevant system with the ability to diagnose problems within our campus infrastructure (ex – SCCM ). The primary focus will be Windows management with some understanding of macOS, iOS and Linux operating systems.
- Provide customer support: Provide end-user assistance on SENS support tickets to a variety of potential issues. Assist a wide range of technical and non-technical users with the identification of problems or needs and implementation of solutions and system adaptions where possible within our environment.
- Work as part of a team: Participate with SENS staff and other campus IT organizations on troubleshooting, developing, and implementing solutions. Tasks include contributing to existing and new IT projects, anticipating future user needs, authoring documentation, identifying processes or new approaches for continued service improvement, and other duties relevant to the technical and software support within SENS .
- Effective time management and the ability to prioritize tasks are essential to succeed in this job as is the ability to remain current with technologies for relevant computing platforms, operating systems, applications, procedures, and techniques.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of IT experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Windows desktop support.
- Experience with secure computing technologies and practices (Antivirus, Firewalls, Active Directory, Group Policy, file system permissions, security policies, patch automation) as defined by the University and SENS .
- Experience with Operating system and application automation and deployment within the Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager ( SCCM ) infrastructure.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office 365 productivity tools (including SharePoint and OneDrive) and the PowerShell scripting language.
- Familiarity with teleconferencing and communication applications such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
- Understanding of DNS, TCP /IP, and Network Services.
- Working knowledge of macOS, iOS, Android and/or Linux operating systems.
- 3-5 years of IT experience.
- Experience in scripting/programming, PowerShell, SharePoint, SCCM, macOS and Linux is a plus.
