Position Description
The Department of Fine and Performing Arts at Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio requests applications for an Assistant Professor of Music and Music Industry. The successful candidate will teach music-business courses, direct a commercial-music ensemble, advise music industry students, instruct applied lessons, and recruit for the Music Unit. This position requires music-technology skills, commercial musicianship, and experience with musical entrepreneurship.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The selected candidate will demonstrate musical excellence, fluidity on an instrument or vocals, and a robust understanding of music business, music technology, and commercial-music performance. Additionally, he or she will show mastery with emergent technologies used for teaching, performing, and platforming music. The successful applicant will possess superior interpersonal skills, be an expert communicator, and be capable of handling requests, suggestions, and complaints. Finally, the new Assistant Professor of Music and Music Industry will be a role model for students, be committed to academic excellence, and be devoted to organization, time management, and public relations.

- Participate actively in the Music Industry
- Collaborate with colleagues on performances, committees, and other projects
- Evolve with needs of the department
- Solve problems with creative solutions
- Recruit for the Music Unit and University
- Handle fluid circumstances and shifting environments
- Manage musicians of varied levels of preparedness and ability
- Maintain a robust record of research
- Follow the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the faculty and administration, as well as the Faculty Handbook
Qualified applicants must have a Master of Music degree, preferably in Music Technology or Music Industry.
Significant experience in the following areas required:
- Music publishing
- Artist promotion
- Commercial-music performance
- Tour management
- Concert production
- Copyright law
